Trade show freebies

Where did September go? Whoa it’s almost been a month since I got back from BC/Alberta?

Get this. I work in a “Techy” area of town and most people who work up around here don’t know what this building is. We put off BBQ’s and people were like “We had no idea you guys were here” Whether they’re talking about google, the financial institution or the gym here. It has so much stuff! A credit union, a cafe (that is quite pricey mind you but oh so scrumptious food), a health club that I quit but may re-join if they offer a discount in the new year, upstairs is a dentists office as is google and a few of our board rooms.

The owner of the building put on a mini heath trade show on Tuesday. It was primarily to show people that there’s a health club here and to show off what we have here too. As they were setting up a co-worker and I headed out to the atrium and introduced ourselves as the Credit Union staff. The building itself is a very open concept so right outside our “door” (sliding glass doors that are always open and is literally about 17 feet long). There was a spa counter set up with essential oils, organic hand cream and scrub. So that of course was stop #1. Did a bit of walking around and ended up mingling with some ‘swag’ people from a promotional company here in town. Met the one of the workers up in the dentistry office and got a free tube of toothpaste. Yum.

0-003I was told to fill out ballots for door prizes inside the gym so the co-worker and I headed the mere 20 feet to the gym doors and off we went to fill out those ballots. (I don’t think I won anything. It’s been two days.) Inside the lobby of the gym there were three booths set up. One my co-worker fled to because she used their products already – I think it was facial cleansers or something. But I saw the price and fled that scene quickly after. Until I was subtlety grabbed by the Clarin’s booth (I’m making this seem super huge, but really the booths were like two people wide and super tiny. But good none the less!). The Clarin’s lady asked me what I was interested in, and I had no idea because … I thought Clarin’s was for old people. So I said foundation. She swatched me, gave me a freebie and asked me to fill out my name to be on t heir mailing list. Well, that’s a plus apparently because as soon as I did, they handed me a cute red gift bag. It consisted of mascara (which is a lot better than the MAC one I am using currently) and a face mask which I have yet to use.

Seriously. I love freebies to try out. Since the Clarin’s lady was so informative I think I may end up switching my foundation over from MAC to Clarins, no jooke. It actually feels a lot smoother going on and my face doesn’t ‘soak it up’ and make it look all dry. I’m almost dewy as weird as that sounds. Maybe some people don’t like that type of finish but I do, it’s a nice change after using MAC for about a year or two.

Very fitting in this entry — I won a door prize last week at the charity BBQ that we had for one of the University football teams at work. And a very fitting door prize for me in fact. I take the bus — it’s been raining for the past two weeks. I walk everywhere because I don’t own a car at the moment. I won, an umbrella. An umbrella and a lunch case. Only the lunch box is shown because I used the umbrella (figures!) and I won’t be using the lunch box so I’m giving it to the boyf. He seems to love it.

Just goes to show, when you’re at a trade show or anything try your best to hit every counter and see what they have to offer. Don’t be shy! Even ask for some swag, the worst they can say is no. More often than not they don’t have much to give besides a pen or something. But you’ll meet some pretty cool people and perhaps get something worthwhile out of it too.
