How to wear white into Fall

Header-Santana-RowSantana Row is a place I frequent many times in the run of a week. On Friday I drove over and wanted to check out some of their new Fall Fashion pieces.

Rather than showcase the new clothing items on racks, or holding them up to show you, I thought I’d try something a bit different, and try everything on. That way you’d get a sense of how things fit. Plus, you guys seem to like my OOTD posts (those get so many hits!).

So I think it’s only fair to say the age old rule of never wearing white after labour day is thrown out the window. Style is what you make it, whether you wear white in September, or not. I am personally ALL for it, because I love the laid-back feel to a pair of white jeans.

I popped into a few of my favourite stores at Santana Row to give you budget-friendly, and feeling-spendy items to pair with your white jeans this fall.

Let’s get into it!

Marine-LayerMarine Layer
Marine Layer is a brand new store that opened two weeks ago at Santana Row. They have 19 stores across the nation, but they were founded in San Francisco (hey hey, support local!), originally as a mens t-shirt line. Everything in the store is so unbelievably soft. I wanted everything I tried on. In fact, I’m probably going back for that striped long sleeved (and it’s only $48). You can definitely feel the quality in the clothes. It’s definitely my kinda style, I’ll be back shopping at this store for my husbands birthday too.
[Shop: Harriet Utility Jacket $145 | Long Sleeved Crew Neck 3 for $100 | Slub U-Neck in Hot Sauce $39 | Kirby Striped Scarf $58] Bonus: I was told they have free shipping online, too!

scotch-and-sodaScotch & Soda
I love the layout of Scotch & Soda’s clothing. They only have 3 sizes of every product for sale out on the floor (if one sells of course, they have more in the back). It’s an awesome store with a cool California vibe. I really love that Nordic sweater I tried on, a little itchy, but it would definitely be sufficient in the San Francisco ‘winters’. And swoon at the distressed jean jacket: has that lived-in look. The “grandad sweater” which is just a thick henley, is amazingly soft! And definitely thicker than your average long-sleeved. I’m digging it.
[Shop: Nordic Pullover $149 | Grandad Sweater $79 | Denim Jacket $149]

AnthropologieAnthropologie
I’ve been told many times by my Mother that I have expensive taste. Anthropologie is one of my favourite stores for unique looking pieces that are often convo-starters. They always bring in the best looking pieces for each seaon and I look forward to checking them all out. Most of my wardrobe, when I was working back up in Canada, was from Anthro. Just love their stuff!
[Shop: Colourblock Horizon Dress $158 | Denim Jacket $138 | Sotra Tank $148 | Bella Pointelle Cardigan $98 | Primula Cocoon Cardigan $98 | Peasant Top (Similar $118)

HnMH&M
H&M is such an affordable option if you’re looking for trendy pieces but don’t want to break the bank. So many of these finds were under $20! If there’s one thing I’m going back for this week, it’s definitely this v-neck cami. It fits perfectly, and has a slit on either side by the hips, making it fall perfectly. Although I do love white-on-white, I would probably pair the v-neck with a jacket and blue jeans.
[Shop: V-Neck Camisole $17.99 | Faux-Suede Biker Jacket $69.99 | Embroidered Top $9.99 | Bird Jersey Top $9.99]

Free-PeopleFree People
I don’t think I’ve ever tried anything on at Free People. But I always see people walking around with these off the shoulder cool-casual-vibe to them. I’m gonna guess they only got them from Free People. I love every.single.one I tried on.
[Shop: Lovers Rib Thermal $68 | Black Boucle Slouch Cardi $128 | La Brea V-Neck Sweater $108 ]

UrbanUrban Outfitters
My most favourite item of all the Fall Fashion pieces I picked out at Santana Row, has to be this lumber-jack style flannel. I’m not sure I’d like it paired with anything else but a pair of crisp white denim. I love how this look turned out.
[Shop: Flannel Button-Down $49 |  Project Social T Textured V-Neck $34 | Ecote Guinevere Open-Back Frock Dress $69]

MadewellMadewell
Madewell is bringing back the peplum style blouses! I think these are incredibly flattering. I’ll be picking this up once it goes on sale. And their basic tees/sweaters are just as comfy as they look.
[Shop: Riverside Texture Sweater $79.50 | Ruffle Tank Top $79.50 | Seabank Cardigan $88 | Anthem Scoop Elbow-Sleeve Tee $38]

kenda-scottKendra Scott
Another new store at Santana Row. Kendra Scott opened a lovely store along the main street of Santana Row. You might’ve recalled I went to one of their events before the store even opened! A lot of Kendra Scott jewellery isn’t my style, but I found a few pieces that definitely went with the outfit I was wearing on Friday. I’m really into that chocolate brown stacking bracelets.
[Shop: Samantha Necklace $130 | Blake Bangle Bracelets in Chocolate Druzy $120]

I’m obsessed with my white jeans, and a lot of people ask me how I’m so brave to sport them often. Let me tell you my number one tip: don’t buy an expensive pair!

I guess what I’m saying if you’re spending a ton of cash on the white jeans you’re most likely going to be afraid to wear them, or spill anything on them. These were $30 from JC Penny two years ago. I wear them a ton, don’t mind if they get dirty, and if they do wash them immediately when I return home. That, and carry around a resolve stick with me constantly (that stuff is unreal… I love it).

Will you be picking up some new pieces for Fall to add to your wardrobe? What kind of items are you looking for? Now that I window-shopped Santana Row, I definitely want to go back for the white H&M cami, and the lumber-jack flannel at Urban!

And after your Fall’16 Fashion shopping spree, pop by the new restaurant Roots and Rye for a bite!

Outfits of the week

Looking back through my Instagram feed or even here on the blog, it looks like I haven’t done an outfit of the day (OOTD) or showed much fashion, in a long time! If you’re a long-time reader you know that I used to post OOTD’s each Friday to showcase what I wore to work that week. I miss it! And to be honest, my outfits aren’t as interesting as they once were, because sometimes I wear the same jeans and shoes multiple days in a row, just swapping out for a clean tee.

But I thought I’d put together some outfits that I wore over the last few weeks and post’em up in a nice little OOTD sort of post, because the feedback from the other one (months back!) was great. So here we are again.

So I guess Tobi liked my post back in May, and contacted me in early July to see if I wanted to work with them. I love it when that happens! Although, I’ve said before that Tobi clothing is sort of like the quality of Forever 21, there’s definitely a few hidden gems on their site along with clothing I might not usually go for considering my age lol.

Let’s get do it to it.

OOTDWhite-and-Blue-tankCalifornia Casual // Go With Me tank + Zara jeans + American Eagle belt + Fossil Emi Saddle bag + Charlotte Russe flats + Moto 360 watch.
I’m a huge fan of the baseball tee style, so when I saw Tobi had this tank available, I asked to review it. It’s super cute, and it’s sort of tunic length but has a slit up either side of the tank, so it’s easy to do a front-tuck to show the belt/jeans combo. My jeans are worn almost every day of the week, I’m not ashamed haha, I love how comfortable they are. Now, speaking of comfortable, the flats are the complete opposite. If I want to wear them for any length of time, I put bandaids on my heels. Ouch!

Striped-Hoody-OOTDBlack and White // Target hoody + JC Penny pants + Charlotte Russe flip flops.
I mean, really I’m not entirely sure what I was thinking on the third photo. But I love it, so I left it in. Mid-dance? Robot? Who knows. Love this basic but semi-stylish outfit. The hoody is so lightweight, so it’s easy to wear it in a climate like this.

OOTD-Pink-HeartWear your heart on your sleeve // Heart On My Sleeves Sweater + American Eagle Belt + JC Penny jeans + Charlotte Russe flip flops
The CUTEST sweater there was. The only size left was a large and I didn’t care. I wanted it badly! It also comes in purple and a nice mint green which I was debating on getting. I think this outfit is the epitome of summer. Heehe!

Hello-SweaterHello! // Zara jeans + Target shoes + Hello sweater + Moto 360 watch.
Believe it or not, California does get ‘chilly’ (hey I’ve acclimatised here!) and on those days, I reach for a super comfortable sweater. This one is awesome, and so soft, and it’s from the brand Hello. Cute hey?

OOTD-with-red-white-shortsIt’s super hot out // Target shorts + Sunday Love Deep Tee + Jord Watch + Fossil Emi Saddle bag + Charlotte Russe flip flops.
Guys, I rarely wear shorts. There’s only one particular reason I don’t. I’m always cold! Even in California. So when I’m wearing shorts, you know it’s a scorcher out there. I love these stripey shorts I recently picked up (on sale too!) for $12 at Target. Deals man. Deals. Love ’em. My Jord watch is new. It’s from the men’s section of their site, I love huge oversized watches, but I need to put a link back in because I asked them to send it with some taken out, and now it’s cutting off a bit of my circulation hahaha. No biggie.

OOTD-Green-pantsMy Everyday Style // Pocket T-Shirt + Target pants + Charlotte Russe flip flops
Oops. I only took one photo this day. That’s okay. I love the jeans, they’re a deal from end of summer last year. They’re ankle jeans with a bit of stretch to them. I like it. The shirt has a wider neckline than I anticipated, but otherwise it’s pretty great.

OOTD-Cali-SweaterComfy Casual // California Sweater + JC Penny jeans + Charlotte Russe flip flops + Moto 360 watch
A huge favourite of mine. I swear this sweater almost every day. Hey kinda looks like the reverse outfit from the one above. Guess pairing Green and White together is something I do.

Love the looks I created? Here are some more of my top picks on Tobi’s site: white dresses, shorts,  gold dresses, peplum tops, sweaters, and fun tank tops.

Disclaimer: Tobi sent me 4 pieces of clothing to review.

On Trend Sneakers For Summer

One thing I love about living in California, is how laid-back the style is here. I feel like I could rock wearing sneakers to any sort of event I attend. On a regular basis you’ll probably see me wearing my black, or white faux vans on an everyday basis. Either that or I’m wearing fake keds. Notice a trend here? I don’t tend to buy the real deal because I’m cheap. I shouldn’t be! Considering it’s my feet and I’m usually complaining about them hurting if I’m headed to the City for a day.

Here are 5 of my current favourites for for all budgets – enjoy!

For the most part I wear sneakers 90% of the time, whether they’re slip on or street-style. Here are some of my favourite sneakers for summer.

Brooks Chariot HeritageBrooks Women’s Chariot Heritage $99. 80s babies rejoice! The 80s sneakers are making a huge comeback and I’m all about hopping on that train. I LOVE these Brooks Women’s Chariot Heritage $99. They come in a huge array of colour combos to choose from (and not just suede, either). Who digs them as much as me?

downloadConverse Shoreline sneaker $55-75. Woah, did you know you could customize your own chucks? I’ve been eyeing the lowtop shoreline white converse shoe for months. But it was only when I visited their site that I realized you could customize the colour, print, and even stripe on the shoe! These are such a classic. I remember having a pair of Converse high tops as a kid.

perfvan2Vans Perf Leather Slip-On $60. Perforated vans in black, or white. These are my everyday shoe (except mine are from Target, hee hee). I think they’re so classic, and they’ve been going with everything I’ve been wearing for the past year or more. I love the suede perf too that I pinn’ed here.

SUPERGA-COTU-CLASSICSuperga Cotu Classic $33-65. These are quite similar to the converse shoes I love, but have a touch of “hey what are those?” to them. I know that Target now has a collaboration with them and I think they’re under $30!

Nike Air Max TheaNike Air Max Thea $90. I spotted these at the mall with a black tongue and laces, and they look way better than the all red listed on their site. I took so many photos of them, I might have to go back and grab them up!

Honourable mentions of Sneaker Love that are probably not available anymore but I found them on Pinterest. Grey suede reeboks! Nude suede nikes with gold swish. Grey on grey nike sneakers. Pink suede sneakers by a brand I’ve never heard of. Maybe I just like suede sneakers?

Now, if I only had all the money to buy every shoe I listed, I’d be set.

What kind of shoes do you gravitate towards? Flats, sandals, heels, sneakers?
