Fill out that ballot!

I mentioned before that I had a hair appointment coming up with my new favorite stylist for a new cut and crazy colors put in my hair.

Well, that needs to be put off yet again because I received a phone call from another salon that just opened up… and I freaking won a free hair cut and treatment! (Treatment!!???)

One day after my running class ended, I was a sweaty mess and walked back into the gym — in the atrium they had a booth set up presenting a new hair salon and new makeup. I filled out a ballot thinking nothing of it, and they called me on May 6th to say that I had won. How crazy is that? Happy early bday to me, wha?

I feel sort of bad for accepting it, because what if she sucks? I know that’s a bad thing to think about. But you have to understand that I really scope out new stylists years before I end up going to them. I stayed with one stylist that I didn’t like, for two years only to get the courage to go to a new salon — which I did, and I fell in love. Now only after going there just once, I’m switching again (only one time though). I love male stylists, I think they’re the best. So don’t worry Dan! I’ll be back in July!

I made my appointment the same time as I originally had my appointment with my favorite new stylist. Guess I won’t be seeing him til July. Whoooops :)

Winning a haircut, getting a raise, new friends, birthday celebrations. Could last week be any better?

Want a magnapod?

magna-sideviewIf you’re anything like me and try to stay on top of organizing but fail as the week progresses, then stay with me here … and I’ll explain why in a moment. I know it doesn’t look like much at the moment, in that medicine cabinet. But that’s because I’m all organized since I found a solution to all of our morning routine mess in the bathroom! YAY!

MAGNAPODS!
“A place for everything and everything in its place”

I had a chance to review these little magnetic organizational boxes that can store your tooth brush and all your morning essentials. I’m talking about organizing your makeup brushes, compacts, powders, mascaras and anything else that can fit into these tiny compartments. Though, you don’t necessarily need these for just the bathroom cabinet, as I know a lot of people don’t have those medicine cabinets installed in theirs. You can even use it by your computer desk for paper clips, post-it notes, and pens. Or even on the fridge for some organization there too.

Which brings me back to the beginning. The mess that is my bathroom on a Friday morning is unheard of. Visitors are not allowed in there until I organize my shelves, as OCD as that sounds — but I don’t want people picking and prying through my belongings. So, I brought the magnapods home to Newfoundland to try out when I flew home for Christmas. There, you see a different bathroom with a medicine cabinet, which can store quite a bit of things. It doesn’t fit all of the things I wish it would, but then again how much stuff does one use on a daily basis, right?magna-front

I wouldn’t go too crazy trying to get them all in the cabinet at once, as they really don’t fit (as you can clearly see in the photo above), and you kind of have to play a little tetris with the magnetic shelf height to get the door to close. Like I said, it’s not just for bathrooms anymore. It’ll stick to anything that is magnetized and put whatever you like inside.

See? Looks much better now, once you’ve decided which items should go where. You don’t need to put all of the magnapod storage units in that cabinet!

There are two types of shelves that Magnapod has designed. One specifically that I don’t enjoy all that much is the fixed shelves, the other ones have removable plastic slots, in case you have two large items (such as 2 makeup compacts) where you can just take out the plastic insert and have a much bigger “rectangle” to work with.

So!

Want to try it out?

Good. Because I have a lot to give you. What you see in these pictures, you will have the chance to win.

Hatiras

FHM_Hatiras_Dec_web

It’s been a while since I went to a live show with a DJ playing. I remember when I used to head to Liquid back home in Newfoundland when my favorite DJ was playing — DJ Dayhota. Now I’ve branched out and I’m currently obsessed with Hatiras. His music makes me want to run harder when I’m on the treadmill, start immediately dancing when I’m driving in my car, and all around puts me in a terrific mood.

I’m out of the loop lately for the last few years so i’m unaware as to what genre this is. I’m just going to classify it as house/techo right now.

If you want to know exactly what I’m talking about you can listen to a few one minute clips of his top downloads on Beatport. You can buy the songs individually for $2.49 as well. (Hint hint, I’d love this for Christmas!).

My personal fav’s:

  • Digital Doom
  • I Don’t Want it
  • Space Invader

I also love really chill ambient music. Stuff that you’d maybe hear in a hair salon, coffee house or whatever. I’m usually content with what music I have, but I haven’t gotten any new songs since 2006 when I was in the height of partying, going to school with some really awesome people who liked the kind of music I liked, and now I’m just getting bored of my music. I need some spiiiiiiice.

If you sign up with Beatport (it’s free), you get 10 free downloads. It’s too bad you don’t actually get to pick your favorite DJ or artist — because that would have been much better on my part.
