Hair Cuts from Basement Dweller

I had a bit of running around to do during my lunch hour today, because I won’t have access to my car for the next few days. Had to get the errands out of the way and do a little beautifying.

I dropped into Sephora since I received an e-mail about getting 3x the points this week. Couldn’t pass that snazzy opportunity up.

The goods: Dior BB cream (which I use for foundation) and a delicious Philosophy shower gel.

Then… let me give you a little back story before I jump into it. Mom cut my hair, until I was in my early twenties when I ventured into a hair salon and never looked back. I’ve had a few bumps in the road and didn’t stay with one hair stylist for very long. That is, until I found out my friend did hair for “fun”. I went to him for a few years and he would never let me see what he was doing to my hair. I’ve ended up with some crazy colors in my hair. Looking back, it’s pretty out there for an introvert like myself.

Unfortunately he had a few addiction issues and literally disappeared off the face of the earth. All I know is that he’s still alive. Doesn’t that sound sketchy. Either way I’ve been back and forth cheating on hair stylists and going to different ones for YEARS. I was never pleased with the service I received, and since I go so infrequently, I never developed a relationship with my stylists. I was paying upwards to $70 for a flimsy ol’ haircut. In and out of the chair within a half hour. Not the most affordable option.

So I started cutting my hair and finally I got a new pair of scissors to use. It wasn’t the best idea I’ve ever had, but it was cheap and the scissors were sharp.

Over a year ago, I stumbled upon basement dweller and it’s in no way making fun of her (well, kinda) but it’s true. She does hair out of her 80’s, always under renovation dark secluded basement. Yet, somehow the woman (who is my age) does some kind of wonderful, magical thing with my hair and I always love it. I have yet to be disappointed. So yesterday marked the 14 weeks and I was due for a hair trim. I also ended up getting it dyed. It’s darker than what it was since I had some highlights put in, in April.

This is the outcome, before and after:

I’m off for the night, to finish my delicious lemon pepper chicken stir fry!

How often do you get your hair cut?
I usually go every 14 weeks

Are you a fan of Sephora?
Clearly I am, being a Sephora VIB

Loving the Samsung Galaxy Camera

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client.

Popping in for an evening hello.

I got my hair cut from my amazing hair stylist (seriously) who I call “basement dweller”. I’ll show you in tomorrow’s post the before/after. I also picked up some goodies from Sephora. The night didn’t stop there. I asked my Boyf to join me at BestBuy to pick out a new camera for my point-and-shoot. Side note. Check out how cold the clouds look. This evening was just like an autumn’s evening. Bitter cold. Not suitable for sandals like I was wearing. I’m holding onto you summer. Come back!Best Buy
I’ve had my canon point and shoot for a number of years and it’s kinda starting to show signs of age.canon sd1100
I’m a dropper of things, and cameras aren’t the exception. Recently, I dropped the camera while the lens was open and thankfully it still works but now there’s a dark spot on the right hand side of every photo/video I take. It’s distracting since when I want to film some YouTube videos, the blob of darkness is just there, the entire time.

So I’m due for a new point and shoot. It’s insane how fast technology changes. My canon is around 5 years old and now look at the fancy Samsung Galaxy Camera EK-GC100 16.3 MP Digital Camera (in white no less) which retails for $599.99 at Best Buy. Mind. Blown.just-like-a-tablet
It looks like a high end smart phone with this absolutely massive screen (4.8″). You cannot do voice calling on this camera/smart “phone” but you can do internet calling. Basically it’s like a mini tablet stuck to the back of your camera. Fancy.

It has a very crisp and clear screen and has a great viewing angle (tipping it and having people from every angle be able to view).samsung

I was always a canon-girl at heart but I now I have a Samsung not-quite-SLR but pretty fancy, that the Boyf gave me for Christmas.samsung nx10

I’ve really enjoyed using it and it’s what I now use primarily for my blog photos.

I also went over to the Nikon’s to compare. Here I am looking at the Nikon J3—it wasn’t nearly as impressive. The Nikon didn’t have as many pixels and didn’t record in HD resolution like I had planned on looking for, when purchasing a camera.nikon-comparison
Samsung has all the bells and whistles. You may notice that it’s a bit bigger than your average point-and-shoots. But I didn’t feel that it was out of place to hold in my hands. It has a comfortable mould for your hand to grip so it doesn’t slip off the camera. A nice feature for a clumsy person like myself. It’s definitely a fun camera to use with a great user interface. As someone who doesn’t use a Samsung model table (I have an iPad), I didn’t find it difficult to navigate or get back to “home” or “camera” settings.

Samsung? You make one heckuva show-stopper camera. All in all, I give it two thumbs up. It’s going on my wishlist for now!

Back to look at the Samsung. I’ve fallen in love with it.snapping-shots-at-best-buy

But it’s out of my price range for now. I should’ve done a thumbs down. Haha! 599-price-at-best-buy
As you could imagine, the Samsung galaxy camera installs any apps, like you would on a phone. using-the-samsung-galaxy-ca
The main reason I’d like to have it is for recording YouTube videos. This lil guy records video in full HD up to 1920×1080. I’ll keep shopping around, or maybe I’ll wait out this Samsung camera to drop in price, since it’s fairly new. It’s oughta drop by Christmas, right? Santa Claus, you reading this? If you want to see more photos from our evening, I created a Google + album. samsung-galaxy-in-white

What kind of camera do you have?
I have a canon PowerShot SD1100 IS, and a Samsung NX 10

Should you buy the Tangle Teezer?

The-Original-Tangle-TeezerI’ve invested four dollars of my money in a hair brush that looks horrible but has had great reviews. Meet, the Tangle Teezer. It’s a brush that claims to detangle your hair with little effort. Does it work? Should you buy it?

tangle-teezerI have fine hair, and if I step outside on a windy day, my hair will get knotted. For years I’ve been using this wide tooth comb and while it worked for the time being, I felt like my hair wasn’t growing past a certain length and my hair was breaking easily, no matter how careful I was with the comb. I wash my hair every second day but I’ve been using the Tangle Teezer brush everyday since I bought it.

Tangle-Teezer_All I can compare it to is brushing out your already brushed hair. That’s how easy it is to glide through my rats nest set of locks. With regards to hair shedding however, there’s not a significant change. My hair sheds just about the same as it used to. So that’s unfortunate.

When can you use the Tangle Teezer?

  • Use on wet or dry hair.
  • Use in the shower to distribute your conditioner.
  • Use it when you’ve stepped out of the shower to rid hair of knots and tangles.
  • Works after you’ve applied styling products to damp hair.

The shape of the brush is the only thing I have a small issue with. I don’t mind that it doesn’t have a handle but it doesn’t fit in my hands as nice. But those are minor details. Tangle-Teezer-in-hand

You can see from the photo that the plastic bristles are two length which are thin and flexible. Note the bristles are shorter so if you have an abundance of hair you may need to separate it into sections. tangle-teezer-bristles

The Tangle Teezer is worth every penny… that is, if they made pennies anymore. You catch my drift, don’t you? I think I’m going to pick up a few more as presents before it goes back up in price.

Do you have tangly hair?

What kind of hair brush do you use?
