Busiest weekend ever

First of all, I have to talk about my co–ed soccer game on Friday. I was going flat out during that game, which consequented (is that a word?) in a few accidents caused by the male players on the other team, involving me, and only me. I had somewhat of a breakaway as I was playing forward (winger, preferably), and some guy started to just run along with me, finally he dipped his foot in to grab the ball, but I tipped the soccer ball just a tad so I could hop over his feet and race past him. Unfortunately for me I fell over his legs when he tried to stop the ball from going past him. Which made me fall face first onto the ground

Face.

First.

I know my legs were up in the air when I was flailing about as I was going down, I ended up turning my head sideways so I wouldn’t smack my chin off the ground, so instead the BACK of my right shoulder got the brunt of it. Now explain that to me! It all sounds so bad, terrible and horrific. Seeing how everyone was surrounding me and when I looked up the guy who tripped me, was kneeling down in front of me. Immediately, I got up and started playing again. Of course, it was a foul so we got a free kick out of it that one of the guys took for me. My neck and my right lat is so sore. I’m so glad I had a chiropractor appointment today. My co–worker was also at the game (he’s about 55–60yrs old and loves soccer) he told me this morning that he didn’t think I was going to get up! I must have been down there a while. I guess I didn’t realize it.

It wasn’t the only weird thing that happened during Friday’s game. It was a corner kick and I ended up trying to whack the ball in the net, and somehow I collided with another male player from the other team, and he caught me from behind. Literally. He caught me. I don’t know if I jumped in the air, or what happened. It was awkward, but I told him “good catch”. Cause…what do you really say? Thank you would’ve been too weird. Really?

saucony-rideI also picked up my Saucony Ride’s I was talking about! Initially I had tried them on last Saturday at the price of $119. I went to the National Sport  store, the same day and saw that they were 20% off. I was still hesitant on purchasing them though, because I’m a stindge with my money lately. On Wednesday my Boyfriend received an e–mail from one of the speciality stores (where I first tried them on) and the owner/manager/whatever–he–is, sends out e-mails to people who obviously subscribe to them, and mentioned that there was an overload of Saucony’s in stock and they need to be sold! Sold at self-in-car40% off that is, my friends! Soo… my beautiful new runners cost me a mere eighty bucks tax in. How sweet it is. However, they didn’t have my size in the red that I wanted. Apparently boyfriend thinks that the green ones are much more unique in a sneaker, not my first choice as I don’t think I even own anything green, but since I haven’t purchased a pair of runners since 2004, you can obviously say I was in dire need of some new ones.

boyfriend-triMove onto Saturday, where the boyfriend had another triathlon and I skipped my pedicure appointment to help him (because going to tri’s is much more involved than Du’s — he needed help putting on his wet suit!). Shocking, I know. I made sure he felt bad, knowingly canceling my pedi appointment (it’s okay I have another appointment for tomorrow hee hee). I had a chiropractor check up this A.M, and my nails weren’t painted pretty.  Whatevs. There’s been worse cases he has seen, I’m sure. And thanks carride-hometo Ashley’s comment — Karma was definitely on our side, because my Boyfriend placed first in his age group, and 11th over all. More importantly to him, he had the second fastest bike time (km’s/hr) in the whole race! That’s HUGE you guys. The fastest guy was only five seconds ahead of him. Ow ow!

Saturday night my boyfriend drove to Toronto to stay with one of his friends so he’d wake up bright and early (5AM!) to get ready for the Ride For Heart on Sunday morning. After, he came homebathroom had a 2 softball games, and we headed out to a friends BBQ (we were un–fashionably 3 hours late) Eugh! At least it was warm enough where I could wear a nice summery outfit. (Excuse the  dirty mirror!) I felt bad, especially because I only get to see the wife and child of boyfriend’s ex–co–worker, once a year. It’s so awkward when you haven’t seen someone in such a long time and you’ve got so much to talk about, but so little at the same time. Have you ever been in that sort of situation before, too? Weird isn’t it!?

Basically all we did this weekend was live out of the car. Between soccer, tri’s, softball and shopping I don’t think we did anything else but eat, sleep and clean up the apartment! Sheesh. It doesn’t stop there either! Next weekend and the weekend after will be equally as busy. My boyfriend’s sister is coming to stay with us for a short vaca next week and I’m so excited to have a female friend around, again! Then next weekend, Boyf and I are heading up to the beautiful area of Muskoka for a very competitive tri on Sunday! Weeee!!! I love summer.

I think I can, I think…

I have a love/hate relationship with running. In the past I’ve loved it and as soon as I hit peaked and hit a plateau I  stopped. I stopped enjoying it and stopped the running altogether. Can you believe I stopped running after I actually enjoyed doing my first 5km road race? Maybe it’s because I desperately need new shoes, or maybe I should switch to a more supportive shoe like the trail running shoes (I’m digging these babies!)

My Boyfriend, the triathlete trains 7 days a week and wears Heart Rate Monitors all the time, from swimming, biking and while running, to track his fitness and keep his heart rate down to a reasonable level. When I was a member at the gym (shame on me, not anymore) I wore one of those things once while getting my fitness level tested (I did well actually!), and even though I was running for about 8 months (only on an indoor treadmill with no incline, cause I’m a real winner like that) my heart rate was always through the roof 190bpm! Even though I didn’t feel out of breath, and I could run for 6 miles with no big deal. My heart rate was always high. I never did understand that part about it. Like I said, love/hate.

Hate plateauing. Hate not knowing why my heart rate was always up. Loved being able to watch TV and running at the same time. Loved seeing the 2 inches disappear off my butt.

I think I need to be competitive with myself or anyone really, constantly. I guess you could call that goals.

I used to work for an internet website marketing company that actually had a gym inside the building. It was so hard not to skip going to the gym, because I actually had to walk past the weight room to get out of the building. As a competition once, a few of the staff had a handful of coworkers willingly sign up (there was about 300 people in the company) to walk across Canada virtually. They handed us each our own sleek black pedometer and off we went for four months and we kept track of our fitness online.

There were about 8 per team and each of us were tracking our daily workouts and how far we ran/walked/hiked/biked, whatever it was! Could have even been a sport like basketball or soccer.  I ruled that one out because I wasn’t on a team at that point. Having Pedometers (and getting to keep it after!) and that competition was great fun. Of course, our team being the most athletic (we had a marathon runner, a snowboarder, and a few others including me on the team, basically having a bunch of youngin’s was a total plus. Which is why we won!

Want to know the grand prize?

What did we win?

A pizza party. Now tell me how is that rewarding and healthy after a long so many month trek across the country! Sheesh. At least we got a cool t-shirt out of it too, which I wear to bed now.

So, what I’m trying to say here is that I get the motivation about 6 months after stopping my workouts, to start up again. After reading a bunch of my new found blog friends, and going to my Boyfriends first race of the season I’m happy to say I’ve found that motivation to start up again.

Preparing for the first race of the season

(All the photos on this post are clickable to be enlarged)

I totally just realized I’m eating a lot of carbs. Naturally, this would be totally fine for my boyfriend who is a triathlete, but not so much for me. Last night I had to cook a carb filed meal since it was the first race of the season the next day (being today). Plus, I felt the urge to cook something different each night. I failed to realize there was carbs in everything that I made this weekend. My belly feels full just looking at it all (even though I had an iddy bitty portion). To top it off, we went to McDonalds tonight, after my soccer game and his duathlon.

In case you haven’t checked my recipe section in a few, I updated one of the recipes I made (last night) with a photo. It was ooey gooey with cheese, and oh lord was it ever good — in moderation. Meaning once every 4 months, haha. This will be a good meal pre–Ironman race in August, don’tcha say!?

0We woke up earlier than usual this morning because boyfriend had his first race of the season (the only duathlon he’s doing this season, the rest are tri’s). Of course, everyone gets excited over the first race of the season so everyone comes out from the woodwork and race their little tight butts off. I even saw a license plate from NY today. Dedication people!21

I was playing with the settings on my camera (exact color too!) today  and 5got some good results that I was quite pleased with.  (There he is on the right with the blue jersey on)  That guy would  move out of the way, he wasn’t even in that wave group! Having the flash on in daylight/outdoors is total key. The only fail of the day was spending it all outdoors without any sunscreen on. Slap my wrist now guys :( My honker is bright red. Not cool.

There he is! Going out for the 30k bike. I wish this was a bit more clear, even though boyfriend is in focus … sorta? I don’t know. Whatevs right? I got lots of photos of him he was like “Enoughhhh already” (in the photo where he’s carrying the bike. Hee hee.

feetSoccer was brutal tonight. Again, first game of the season, with a few new girls on the field. I ended up getting knocked down when I was trying to score and landed on my left shoulder AND HEAD! My temple is bruised a bit, and I have a dirty ol’ mud stain on my shoulder. How the eff is that going to come out in the wash? Tips anyone? The stupid woman didn’t even apologize, and the ref wouldn’t let me race off the field. I was like COME ONNN people. Not my day for a good game. No photos of that unforunately, only the one I took of my shoes while waiting for boyfriend to pick me up. Oh, we tied 3-3 and can you believe it Legs (me lol) didn’t get a goal. Jeesh!

Alright, this is getting to be a novel here. I’m going to take a nap (at 9:30 at night!)
