Eczema has a mind of its own

ootdThe face looks splotchy on the camera. I swear I know how to blend my makeup. Nobody cares.

As insane as this sounds, my eczema moves to a different place on my body each winter. I know! It sounds so bizarre but it’s true. My first year when I was experiencing weird dry flakey, sore red skin — I had no idea what it was until my neighbor back home in Newfoundland (Pharmacist by the way) introduced me to hydro cortisone cream.

The first year was on my eyelids, and temples. Second year it was on the insides of my elbows, where you’d definitely think it naturally would be. Third year was on my HIPS (so painful when you wore clothes all day lol). This year. Well, let’s not go there. Ok ok. It’s a bit lower than my belly button and is awkward to scratch. If I was a man, you’d think I was ‘adjusting’. It’s also migrating to my knuckles. Specifically on my right hand’s forth finger. What gives.

I don’t think the Victoria Secrets body lotion is going to cut it this year. I think I’ll probably nee to whip out the harsh stuff, either that or go to my dermatologist again.

I never had this problem while living in Newfoundland. However, Newfoundland does have quite a bit more water in the air which gives the feeling of damp cold winters, where you can never get warm. Bone chilling to be exact. Then I relocated to Ontario, dry, nose-hair-freezing type of cold. You can actually dress for the cold in Ontario. But then comes the dry skin issues with hard water, dry air, sucking every bit of moisture out of my already lizard skin.

I went and got the H1N1 flu shot last night at a local secondary school where they had the clinic set up. Gotta say, I wasn’t too thrilled about voluntarily having a needle stuck in me, but I did it for good cause. I’m going home to Newfoundland for Christmas and I cannot be sick around my father who is on chemo. My arm is sore and I want to be a huge baby and GO.HOME. (from work that is, not to Newfoundland just yet btw..)

Ooh! I also wanted to tell you all that you need to check out Megan’s new hair color! She dyed it a few nights ago and I’m kind of thinking we have the same coloring? Anyway, regardless of that I’ve been trying to not dye my hair for about a year now. I think I last colored it in August 2008, but I can’t be too positive. I want to see my natural color for a few years, before my whole head starts going grey, you know? Maybe that’s weird of me, but I’ve been dying my hair since the age of 14, and uh. That’s a long time. So I decided to give it a break and my hair grows sooo slow, so the roots are still at around my temples or a bit lower, it’s all brassy and gross now but I don’t care and trying to stick through it. But if and when I do start dying my hair again, I think I’ll go with what Megan used: Revlon Color Silk in Dark brown (30)!

P.S: You all need to get this color nail polish. It’s by OPI — You Don’t Know Jacques. Wonderful shade.

An OOTD collaboration

Collaboration of my Outfits of the Days.

On a regular work week, this is what I’ve been wearing. You can click each image to enlarge to see where each piece is from. Exciting, I know. Brace yourselves — I’m a frugal one … not a lot of designer pieces here. I should totally include my purses and stuff too hey? I dunno. I only have two purses though. Whatevs.

goof Here you can see a genuine smile of mine. My boyfriend was making fun of me taking a photo every day and he was almost behind me in this shot, plus the flash didn’t go off for some reason. So —  Bloopers are always fun. Right? Anyway this is probably not interesting for you readers (or is it?), but I like to try and wear a lot of things that I have in my closet, especially since I’ve usually been saving my tops for weekend wear because I didn’t know what to pair them up with so it wouldn’t look as casual. Maybe it didn’t work. I’m new at this! :)

Plus is saves me from wearing out my favorite pieces, like the J Crew cardigan. I’d totally wear that every day if I could. But that’s just weird, so I don’t. Next week, I need to incorporate more color into my wardrobe. Holy moses.

OOTD & Foundation review

1122

Ugh. Poorly laid out images on this website. My apologies. But I wanted to do a two in one sort of post. One, Outfit of the Day (and evening, by the second one!) Then a blog post on a Walmart find / makeup review!

First things first. In the first photo I am wearing the most comfiest thing I have ever purchased from Abercrombie and that’s the babydoll shirt that I bought in 2006 or so. Holding up pretty good too, no holes yet! I paired it with some pin strip pants (navy) along with my XX1 necklace and J Crew sweater (obviously my new staple in my wardrobe. Should have purchased a few back ups, huh?)

Next. My RIMMEL London Lasting Finish foundation. I ended up buying this on a whim because I was a bit jealous that my boyfriend was buying something fun — a video game. I decided to take my shopping cart and head to the beauty section to find something for myself, I didn’t know what at the time. But there was a clearance section with two miniature sized bottles of foundation and (what I thought was) cream (but it ended up being foundation primer that is sort of pink(!). Whatever, it was $6.00 on clearance so I bought it.

When I first got into makeup I headed straight for the expensive stuff and didn’t even bother to go to the drug store. I had no idea what I was doing so I left it up to the hands of the Clinique people. That was, until I started getting some nasty bumps on my face where I then switched to MAC products. Well, MAC is kind of expensive and I’m sort of bored with it at the moment. So I decided to maybe try and save myself some money.

I don’t know how to color match myself, so I went with a wild guess and decided to buy the color “103 True Ivory”. (I’m a MAC NW20 in the winter and  NW25 summer (I mix the two colors now because it’s transitioning into Winter and I’m not exactly NW20 yet). But I gotta say, for my first time picking out any makeup for myself I think I did exceptionally well.

The first photo is of me at the end of a work day, where I touch my face a lot (bad habit, I know). And the second picture is right after I applied the RIMMEL stuff. Looks pretty decent. I didn’t have it on my face for very long as I tried this right as I was about to go to bed. But I’ve been using it for about 3 weeks on a daily basis and I have to say that I’m probably going to re-purchase it when I run out and probably never wear MAC again. It’s incomparable — $7 foundation that covers just as well if not better because the liquid mineralize satin finish foundation is minimal coverage which is build-able but that means more product is being used, and for 3x the price of a drug store brand.

Sorry MAC — I give up on your foundations, for now.
