How to wear the Dior Lip & Cheek Glow

Dior-Lip-Glow-headerAs I’ve stated many a time, I love a sun kissed and dewy look to my makeup. The only powder I wear on my face is a bronzing colour (mainly gravitate towards California Bronze by bareMinerals, see how I apply it!) and everything else is cream or liquid based.

Lip-and-Cheek-Glow-Size-comDior Lip & Cheek Glow is perfectly marketed towards people like me. Dual purpose, takes up little room in the makeup bag since it’s one product, not two. And, created a lasting all day colour to the cheeks and lips.

Here, let me explain.

Dior-Cheek-and-Lip-GlowWhen I first opened it up, I was all “Oh hayy no, this won’t work”. Since it was a bright pink, and I usually go for either softer natural looking blushes, or something with peachy undertones.

Dior-Lip-and-Cheek-GlowEven opening the nail polish like bottle, and looking at the applicator, I thought it was a little weird. It smells minty (yum). You’ll notice that the applicator is a soft spongy round shape. I apply the smallest amount to my cheeks and layer it, because I can see myself messing it up and having a weird stain blob on my cheekbones.

However, I have it all down pat now, since I’ve been using it often after I received it in January. The soft, round applicator is perfect for lip application, but to use it on your cheeks, I dab the applicator directly to the cheek bones, and blend (dab) with my ring finger. It’ll feel wet (like water, duh) when you’re dabbing it in, but it’ll dry up and leave a nice stain to the cheeks. You can also layer it until you get the desired pigment colour.

For my lips, I also use the applicator and apply a couple of dabs to the bottom lip, and blend the rest in with my finger. I don’t like a ton of colour on my lips, and this just adds a subtle amount of pink. Lip-and-Cheek-Glow-on-lips

I have read reviews in the past about Benefits Bentints, but they are more like a runny texture and more vibrant in colour – where as the Dior Lip & Cheek Glow is a bit thicker, gel consistency smells amazing and most likely would be easier to work with than a more liquidy finish. I can’t compare the two though, as I haven’t tested the Benetints for myself.

The finished look, with my laundry bin and hair dryer just hanging out in the background.

Rose Garden, San Jose

Rose-Garden-headerRoses hold a little special place in my heart. When my Husband and I planned our wedding in 6 days, I had nothing picked out. It was especially fun trying to find a dress after we decided to finally go ahead with a wedding, let alone finding shoes to go with, and of course me not bringing ANY makeup home when I flew back to Newfoundland. Silly me for thinking I needed that break for my skin to breath. Who knew I’d be getting married?

The Guy and I aren’t formal people whatsoever, and planned on getting married in our regular clothes. That was until both our parents piped up saying we should dress up. Okay. Fine.

My Mom asked me what sort of flowers I’d want in my bouquet. “Daisies?” she asked. “Eh, I don’t know. Those smell funny.” I said.

I was never the type of person to have her wedding planned out or thought of at, as a child. I guess you could say I was pretty laid-back about the whole getting married thing. (Ahem. Except for the times I whip out our two small wedding photo albums and reminisce about our memorable, super fun day. The Guy isn’t into looking back at the photos as much as I am ;)

Peach-rosesMy Mom thought some more, “Roses?” she stated. I thought about it and said sure! Our wonderful neighbours helped out with the wedding so much, and picked up a couple of bouquets of red and ivory roses at Costco, and they put together a small bouquet for me to carry as I walked down my parents hallway into our living room.

Yellow-roses-off-to-sideLike I said, roses hold a very special place in my heart now that I am married and have these wonderful memories of them. I had no idea there was a thing such as the Rose Garden in San Jose, so when I went there yesterday, I knew we had to spend more than a few minutes browsing around the grounds.

Roses-at-Rose-GardenBasically I stopped to smell the roses ;)

Enjoy the photos. I’m off to San Francisco for the day to spend a few hours with my Canadian blog buddy, Megan. I’m spending as much time with her as possible before she moves back to Canada next month, so sad!

Rose-Garden-fountain2This rose garden is surrounded by tons of redwood trees, and the aroma of roses just fills the air when walking through. It’s the epitome of relaxation here. Young and old alike were wandering through the gardens, some relaxing on the grass, and many taking it all in, next to the fountain. I have to be honest, California has acclimatized me and I was a little chilly walking around in just my t-shirt and jeans. Canadian friends, I won’t tell you the temperature for fear of being scolded ;)

Hello new bathroom

Master-Bathroom-revamp-headI gave you a tour of what our bathroom looked like in the past, when we get ready for our visitors, but I didn’t exactly show you what it looks like during the off-season when we don’t have guests. I love for the bedroom to be a complete sanctuary, and I would like the bathroom to somewhat replicate it, and look dreamy, and spa-like. Not too difficult to achieve, right? It’s hard to know what to do, when you don’t know where to shop. So today I’m showing you a few unique pieces I found for our bathroom recently.

Bathroom-tourConsidering we still rent, I don’t like to put too much on the walls (if any) so after a year our bathroom still has bare walls and I’m cool with that. I still think it pulls together fairly well, what do you think?

Bomb-shaped-tissue-holderAfter posting this picture on Instagram over the weekend, so many people were itching to know where the white dome-shaped tissue holder came from. It was a random eBay find for less than $7! You can buy it here. Please buy one for every family member. They come in a couple of different colours, and ugh — it’s kinda perfect. It arrived in 10 business days. I bought a few more things from eBay but you’ll have to wait until my next round of rated eBay purchases goes live.

Toothpaste-areaIf you’re wondering why there is only one toothbrush on the shelf, it’s because my husband and I are lucky enough to have two bathrooms! He uses the other one, and I get this one all to myself. The green thing to the right is a package of mints that I bought from REI of all places. Hello toothpaste is a new-to-me product that I’m currently trying out. I reached out to them and asked if I could try out their products and it arrived yesterday with 2 packages of toothpaste (one being peach mango mint, funny hey?), two breath sprays and a toothbrush. Then I have this white ceramic square tray I picked up from World Market for $1.99 and with a 20% discount too! I’m a bargain hunter at heart, I tell you. It was way cheaper than buying it for $13.99 at Muji, and I mean – it looked just like a plate to me. So I wasn’t about to pay that price (some of their stuff is over priced, but many of their products are reasonable).  Muji is a fantastic store by the way if you like organizing. It’s similar to ikea but nicer! Both the donut shaped item holding my clear toothbrush are from Muji, and finally a travel sized aesop hand cream that smells phenomenal.

Hello-Toothpaste-in-handAlright back to Hello products for a quick minute. I wanted to try them out since I knew they were naturally friendly and free of artificial colours. If I were to repurchase anything from this line, it would be the toothpaste.

Breath-spraySeriously, their packaging is adorable. This is the breath spray, and it’s just okay. You get the initial peppermint in the mouth, but if you’re looking for a strong zesty fresh feeling you’ll have to look elsewhere. I love SUPER minty but those can actually harm your teeth. These dental products are all natural and much safer for your oral hygiene.

Flowers-and-soapRanunculus flower, you are officially in my bad books. I loved the smell and look of these flowers at first, they looked like mini peonies. But these suckers wilted after three days and I had to trim them down to fit in this mini water glass because they were drooping over my vase. Sad times. On another note, does anyone keep their fancy looking hand soaps out and refill them with other cheaper soap? I bought this gardenia and white tea scented soap a while ago at TJ Maxx, but it’s been long gone, so I refill it with other liquid soap from the grocery store. Still looks fancy. Success.

Bathroom-tourWho knew a tissue holder could be so snazzy looking? So glad I found it. You can also use it for toilet paper too.

Bathroom-tour2Side note, it is so hard to photograph this bathroom without me being in it. This is one of the pictures I decided not to photoshop myself out of. :)

If you’re in San Francisco tomorrow, pop by Union Square from 11am — 4pm. Hello products will be there and you can have a chance to try their new products, peach mango mint, mojito mint, supermint and pink grapefruit mint. They’ll also be giving away friendly goodies and giving you a chance to win a $100 gift card to Target.
