MAC cosmetics blush

I’ve been in the mood to order a nice peachy blush for summer. I have only owned one blush for a good long time and it’s a blushcreme by MAC cosmetics. It’s called  Blossoming and it’s an absolutely terrifying to color to new blush users. It looks so vibrant in the pot, but when you dab your finger in just ever so lightly, and rub it between your two ring fingers, it applies so lightly and very flattering.

This time though, I decided to go for a powder blush. I’ve been thinking about it for a good 6 months to a year and the MAC makeup artists always recommended one color in common (along with several others), and that is Peachykeen powder blush!

I tried applying the Peachykeen (powder) blush on myself after a full days work and after most of my makeup rubbed off my face. But I don’t notice that much a difference between Blossoming (cream), and Peachykeen. Sure, blossoming is a smidgen pinker than Peachykeen. Then again, peachykeen has a sheen/shimmer to it. At least I know what colors work for me. But I’m a tad bit disappointed in myself for ordering the same shade and not getting something different. Maybe next time…

Blushes and primers last me such a long time — I’m talking a LONG time. I don’t even remember when I ordered Blossoming Blush Cream. I don’t think I had braces on at that point, so I’m thinking 2007? Is that gross? I don’t care. I only recently “hit pan” (you can see the bottom of the blush starting to end!?) and it’s doing well!

Using my MAC paint tubes as a base for my eye shadows (again, which I don’t wear on a daily basis) has lasted me a good three years as well. I mean, check out how tiny the tube is. Obviously this is the old tube and squat to death, but you get the jist.

I decided to try something different in regards to the paints and to keep my eye shadow from creasing during the day. MAC Paint pots and I picked up something that I normally wouldn’t go for: a peachy/pink on my eyelid. Sure, I’d use this color as an eye shadow. I have dark eyelids and I used to like to brighten them up with either concealer (that would rub away or crease during the day) or my go-t0: Paints, or now Paint Pots by MAC. The Bare Canvas paint that I used was a flesh toned color that suited me quite well, and I decided to just try out Rubenesque paint pot. It was an intimating color to swatch on your hands as it looked more gold with some pink and peach undertones to it. However, when I applied it to my lids, it just … did something, and looked fabulous on me!

Have you tried out any new makeup colors or products? It doesn’t even have to be MAC related. Just anything in general!

Fancying up my hair

I’m obsessed with keeping my hair healthy. I know I’ve mentioned here before that I hate getting hair cuts. But I also hate having split ends and damaged hair. Since I need to wash my hair and use heat on it everyday I need good quality products to keep it shiny, healthy and split end free.

I never owned a curling iron before, and I always wanted to have a good quality hair product for doing so. I ended up chickening out asking for a curling iron for Christmas the last few years because I didn’t think my hair would hold the curl and it would be an entirely huge waste of money.

I ended up going for it and flatironexperts.com sent me the Babyliss Pro Ceramic Curling Iron sized at 1½ inch. Other websites sell this Babyliss at retail price for $109, but on the flatironexperts.com it’s on sale for $69. Nice deal, eh especially since it’s ceramic.

What I found neat was that there are actual temp settings on the iron for different types of hair.

I would use setting 2 if I was smart. But I crank that thing up to full heat. It’s the only way my hair will curl.

Here are some specs of the curling iron:

Features

  • 6 barrel sizes available
  • Hot in less than 30 seconds up to 390°F (195°C)
  • Adjustable “electronic” temperature control, 30 heat setting
  • Even and constant heat
  • CERAMIC closes the hair cuticle resulting in smooth, glossy hair.
  • CERAMIC plus heat emits NEGATIVE IONS which eliminate static electricity and neutralize odors and bacteria.
  • CERAMIC barrels retain heat more efficiently, distribute it more evenly and eliminate damaging hot spots.
  • CERAMIC radiates faster drying FAR-INFRARED HEAT, which dries hair from the inside out, preserving more moisture within the hair shaft and causing less damage to the hair cuticle.
  • Dual Voltages for worldwide use
  • Extra long, heavy duty swivel cord
  • Two year warranty

Though if you’re not sure what brand or type of curling or flat iron you want there’s always reviews posted on their site and the top three is listed under the main page banner, or even found right here for easier access.

This is my hair after I blow dry it. Much different than last time, hey? I took my time this day ;)

During the process…It was early in the morning. I don’t smile in the a.m.

I’m trying to show my curls off in this picture. The curling iron is really thick in diameter, so it’s hard to get nice full curls with the length of my hair. But I think I rocked it alright. Especially since my hair doesn’t hold a curl at all.

Annnnnd yeah. That’s the back, haha! I think I need a bit more practice. Or maybe some hair extensions so my hair doesn’t look all scraggly.

I had a bit of a browse on their website, and found some pretty interesting hair tools like the HAI Elite Tong Ionic straightening iron. Have you guys ever seen a curled-looking straightening iron before? It’s neat, and I think the way of the future for these products are to go for Ionic now.  I think I was just sold on the look of that piece.

Their website is pretty rockin’ as far as promotions go. Right now they have a deal where if you spend over a $100 (which is so easy to do), you’ll get a free travel straightening iron. Oh, and don’t worry about the shipping costs, because it’s free after you spend $75. That’s not $75 US dollars either. This company is located in Canada, therefor obviously in Canadian dollars. Their shipping was incredibly fast from B.C. and took three business days to get to me in Ontario. The order was sent out on April 13, and I received it at 10am on April 19! Canada Post doesn’t work on weekends, so that’s … super fast.

I’m trying to do different things with my hair. My Mom, and… even my BOSS told me that I needed a change of pace with my hair and try new styles. I can’t wait for my hair to get longer so I can rock the luscious curls all day long.

Stay sassy!

Don’t you love good hair days?

Obviously working in the industry I’m in (I’m a Graphic Designer), I have to look presentable at every given time. Especially since I’m working inside a financial institution! I used to be hidden in the back office until I moved to another branch closer to work, now I’m all out in the public. Scary stuff :)

Now I don’t have completely unmanageable hair, as it’s pretty straight as it is. Except there’s always kinks and curls in the wrong places. I often wear my hair straight — well more truthfully, every single day I straighten it. When I blow dry my hair it gets puffy, frizzy and pretty crazy looking. Probably because I use a drug store $15 blow dryer, and never let my hair air dry because it’ll get flatter than it already is.

However, even after a fresh new hair cut a few weeks ago, I still found myself resorting back to the flat iron, not only to straighten my hair, but to curl it! Why have I never used this technique before!?  Mind you, I have yet to master curling my hair with the cliche straightening iron, but I’m giving it my all.

I found that using a good quality flat iron will make your hair look a hundred times better than using a generic brand bought for twenty bucks. Which I was excited that I came across the Misikko website! Misikko sells a range of hair products from flat irons, curling irons, professional hair dryers and even hair care products! Misikko even has a button on the main page “items under $100”. Which is great for those who want to spoil their daughters/mothers/friends with a great present for their hair, but don’t want to break their bank.

I was sent this Hana Professional Flat Iron 1’’ – Pink Edition hair straightener which is on their website for $119.99, to review on here to show you what the quality of the flat iron is like. It took literally no time to arrive. 4 business days to arrive from the states! Zippy shipping.

Everything came in shoe sized box, all packaged so neatly and nice. Even little roses! lol

The flat iron comes in a nice tin! Check it out:There’s the on/off switch above, with temperature control settings. Ooh la la, now that’s fancy. I never had temp control settings on a flat iron before, even with my Chi (that caught fire)! However if you want to buy a Chi hair straightener for yourself, there are plenty on Misikko too.

Even comes with a what I assume is a felt carrying case if you don’t want to use the nice pink one.

I’m impressed what the Hana Professional flat iron comes with. If you do your hair on your desk or sink like I do, you’ll probably notice burn marks after laying it down for too long. Lay it on this silicone mat, and you’ll have no troubles!

Some heat protectant too! This leaked out in the box a smidgen, but not enough to ruin anything as everything was covered up in the box anyway! And look! Inside that adorable zebra print baggie is some hand sanitizer and nail files! SO CUUUTE.

Before I straighten my hair, I go through a routine on protecting my hair from all the heat before my hair gets damaged from using my blow dryer, and then putting another hot number on my hair, such as the straightening iron. You can view my hair care routine that I recently picked up since having a hair cut.

It felt a lot lighter than my other straightening iron, which is always a pleasure even if it only takes 4 minutes to straighten my whole head. I found that it didn’t nip at my hair like my other one either. Probably because the Hana Professional by Misikko was better quality and had “squishy” ceramic plates. You know, they move with the hair and all? So great. I’m interesting in seeing what the FHI flat iron is all about too.

I’m going to be brave and post some photos of what my hair looks like immediately after I blow dry it. It gets big, but my hair is fine/thin and after about a half hour it settles down to just an untamed not really sleek looking ‘do. So that’s why I like to straighten my hair daily.

Before and After pictures:

You can even curl your hair with the flat iron! It’s great how I can go from sleek and straight, to create some waves or even curls with a matter of time. This flat iron gives long lasting results for my already semi-straight hair. But honestly, it does because even when it’s humid or misty rain outside this flat iron stood through time and made my hair look awesome, all day.

I have noticed something different about this flat iron though. I thought all flat irons has those ‘re-setter’ type of plugs like the one shown below:

Here’s the pink hana below! (With the regular plug)

Ohhhh. I love it. It’s pink, so sassy and I use it everyday. Thank you Misikko for creating a great flat iron and sending it to me! Much appreciated :)

But wait! There’s more!

Come back tomorrow and have a chance to win your very own Hana Professional 1″ just like mine!
