Officially pooped

I thought I blogged over the weekend, but that clearly was something I dreamed about and didn’t actually do. The weekend flew by incredibly fast, as does any other weekend — such a world wind. I think on Saturday morning I woke up stupidly early (8am is unheard of on a weekend for me) and did six loads of laundry and I don’t even remember what else because it just seemed so far long ago. Like two weekends ago. Does that ever happen to you? What, we had a weekend?

I had a bit of a debate over my waist belt that I was wearing that day. A lot of people thought the belt was out of place, should be larger and so on. But the woman working at the store AND my running buddy all agreed that it looked nice on me. It was laying on my natural waist, not up by my ribs. Because if it were on my ribs – I’d need a smaller belt. I don’t know. The boyf ended up really hating it. But I wore it regardless and felt wicked with it on.

Don’t forget you can enlarge the photos if you can’t see the medium-sized thumbnails.

Ow!

Funky angles.

You can see more of my outfit below in the pictures.

We headed out Saturday night to Toronto to meet up with a few friends who were having a delay/over night stop over at Toronto Airport.

(Us / Boyf driving / ICutOffHisFace. Oops.)

They were a bit late making the meet up so the Boyf and I headed to an incredible hindu temple (Shri Sharadamba Temple) that we saw off the highway.

Little me in front of big temple.

Crazy, right?

Polished marble. I stood on it, but then decided not do. Were we allowed? I don’t know…

What to do/What not to do.

Everything on this building was all carved in India, and shipped over then put together. Incredible, no?

Closeup of the side of the building. Intricate.

By the museum.

Look how huge it is, compared to me!

Sun’s setting! Time to go.

We were out pretty late since we hadn’t seen our friends for ages. But we couldn’t stay overnight as we had to drive back since the Boyf had a triathlon in the a.m.

Sunday was worse. Going to bed and getting 5 hours of sleep, waking up at 6:30am then heading out to the race site with Alfie and the boyf. At least it was a short race, so we were back in the car at around noon.

Triathlon transition

This was the only photo I got of my Boyf throughout the whole race. We were sort of rushed and I didn’t get a picture of the swim, or him in his wetsuit. Nor did I get a picture at all of him on the bike. I had everything set up. Alfie went wild at someone coming up behind him (he gets spooked easily) and then there goes the Boyf whizzing past me on his bike. Perfect timing.

At least I got a photo of him on the final run right before the finish line. Bib # was photoshopped out :)

Alfie was roasting. Check out that tongue on him!

When we arrived home, we napped. For a long time. Until it was time for me to find my way to the next city for my soccer game. Boyf gladly drove in front of me on the highway so I could find my way. Ended up scoring the first goal of the game and also winning 3-1. However I did get another injury (soccer makes me so injury prone!!). One of the defenders took me out pretty badly as she slid-tackled me. I’ve been applying this homeopathic cream that a team mate recommended called Arnika. Apparently it speeds up the healing process. I didn’t ice it last night like a fool, and woke up this morning and it still hurt just as bad.

Icing is so painful. I hate the cold. It numbed my whole leg. I slathered on the Arnika and now my leg is all rashy.

Crazy weekend. Sad it’s over lol. At least we’re done with Monday. Right?

First trail run

First off I want to mention that I love my new friends. They’re there when you have a bad day, take you out for a bit of shopping, chit chatting and all around make me feel SO good. I heart you T!!!!!!!!!!

Okay so since last night, I wanted to talk about my first trail run ever! How exciting huh? Last week when I went to run with my regular running group one of the women I run with told me about another group that does trail runs on Tuesday’s. Well I went to the parking lot meet up and chatted with my running partner. The group was massive, and literally about 40-45 people were in attendance. I didn’t introduce myself immediately, because everyone else was in their own little 5-people circles, chatting to all their regular running buddies.

I was told that they run all year round and they always split up into a 5k, 7k, and 9k run. Most of the people ended up doing a 9k in the forest. Whereas when it was time to split — nobody wanted to do the 5k. Scratch that, none of the people who KNEW THE WAY wanted to do the 5k….So, 7k it was. Longest run I have ever ran. Definitely the longest length of time as well. We were in the “bush” for 58 minutes. Mind you, we stopped every 7-9 minutes as there were tons of forks-in-the-road, and had to wait for the slower groups to catch up. Towards the end, I was hanging at the back of the pack and never did get much of a break when we hit a fork.

It was intense. My breathing was completely normal — mainly because I didn’t know when we’d be done, so I couldn’t exactly panic at the sight of the finish line. Everything was up and down, zig and zaggy. Super fun and it seemed somewhat of a fast pace. Which I didn’t mind because the air in the forest was much easier to breathe than the heavy humidity.

Today? The lower part of my hip muscles/butt are a smidge sore. Nothing too too bad though.

I’ll definitely be going next week, and bringing Running buddy #1, and maybe #2 as well — if he can make it! Hope you can D! :)

Hope you’re all having a good night, see you in the a.m. with a fashion post!

PS: Longer runs = new blisters? Is this normal? I posted it on twitter, and yes I wear socks when I run. But they’re only basic ones. Do I need to invest in some fancy socks? Anyone?

Sunny Saturday

Yesterday (and today really) was such a gorg day. I decided to be productive early in the morning and take Alfie on a 6km walk around one huge block. We covered a lot of ground, but I thought we walked more than that. Mainly because we went for a “stroll”, and it took an hour and a half.

Then later on I decided to try and conquer another kilometer on my runs and do an out and back 3k..

(Pre-run, nobody gets to see the purple faced post-run)

I did do the 6k, and I didn’t do my 10 and 1’s because at minute 9 I stopped at a light for however many seconds, and minute 18 I decided to take the whole two sets of lights and catch my breath, not moving forward at all. So that killed my time a bunch for sure, and I did the 6k in 37:00 even. A bit disappointed when I found out it was a 10 minute mile 6:20/km, but that’s what happens in the heat. The heat slows you down. Then I remembered to myself that not ever run has to be perfect, not every run has to be for distance. You just go, and relax and feel good on those runs and just make the distance. Seriously thought I was speeding through it though… lol

That called for a lot of relaxation.

He was pooped!

I’m not used to going 12k on foot in the matter of an afternoon, that’s what cars are for right?

So I sat on the deck with my pile of magazines that I haven’t gotten to read since May, and just read all but two! Such a fun night.

My running buddy and our “Running buddy #2” — the second one needs a better nickname, are actually out on a run right now. Conveniently running the trail behind my apartment. I declined as I had just woken up not too long ago and was thinking I should meet them half way because they too were doing an out and back. But I decided to skip on it today, but reminded myself not to feel guilty as I just ran last night.

Do you feel guilty if you “miss” a workout? You shouldn’t! I know I’d just miss the hilarious chats that they’d be talking about on the run, heehe!!
