Ankle massages

When name twin (My soccer team mate. We have the same first name, and almost the exact same last name! We became friends instantly lol) was working on my ankle at my Massage Therapy appointment, it didn’t feel as though she was doing much to it at all. But when I walked out the door as my appointment was done, it felt so much looser than my left foot which is 100%. I love it.She just told me to take it easy on the treadmill for the next little while and do ‘small runs’. Small runs to me, means 500 meters and long runs are 4k. Small runs to her though, is 4k. So I’m alright to keep on truckin’ on my “Learn to Run 5k!”

Written in my Sports Medicine chart, was something about my right knee. I’ve always had this tendon or ligament fall over my knee cap when I was doing squats/lunges and it’s been a royal pain since I was in my late teens. I just never did get it checked out because it hasn’t been painful. I can just feel it “snap” over when I bend. It doesn’t happen all the time when I bend my knee, but it’s definitely there most times. Name twin told me that it was my quadriceps muscle flipping over my knee cap! I’m not sure how she is going to end up fixing it, but it could also be due to my ankle and the heel spur I had in my foot as a child.

So much of it makes sense! Jeesh!

I go back to have another ankle massage next week then I’ll stop going to her as my work’s insurance doesn’t cover much massage therapy. I’ll be doing physio with her co-workers. I’ll be going to the same people that worked on the Boyfriend’s shoulder when he separated his shoulder blade last year. Apparently the guy that I “chose” (I don’t even know why I got to choose, but whatever) is a half ironman finisher. (The boyf is a FULL ironman finisher heh heh.). So that will be neat to talk to him about stuff I already somewhat know about, hey?

Soccer starts up after Mother’s Day. Hope I’m good to go with that ankle brace!!

Oh! And Jeanine is giving away two $15 gift cards to Starbucks. Nice huh? Enter here.

Saving money on vacation

Last year the boyfriend and I went on a “vacation” together. I put it in quotes because he completed his very first Ironman Canada in British Columbia last year. So it wasn’t exactly a vacation for him in the beginning. You can see the post re-caps here (1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6)! Yes I wrote a whole six posts about the BC and Alberta excursion from August 2009. This was our very first getaway together as we usually fly back home each year to where we are from, Newfoundland. Which isn’t really an exciting one since we’re actually from the place. You know?

We booked out flights again for this year, and after the Ironman Canada race we’ll be flying to Edmonton. This gets me a little giddy inside, as West Edmonton Mall is notorious for its monstrous shopping mall. It has a water park inside the damn place. Even a hotel! I know I’m going to go wild if left alone for a few hours, and I already viewed the shops that I want to visit on West Edmonton Mall’s website. Level 2 — Anthropologie.

Last year we ended up spending about $2,400 each on the vacation. Which included hotels, air fare, car rental, gas, food and not much shopping since we were there to see the mountains. But we paid to go up on the gondola rides in Banff, and paid to enter the parks, and all that other expensive stuff.

I know this year may end up being more expensive due to the fact we’ll be flying to Edmonton (well, it was only fifty bucks with the seat sale) and I wanted to try and make things cheaper. But I don’t know how to go about this.

When we were staying in the hotel when Ironman Canada was on, we stayed at a place with a kitchenette so we made our meals instead of going out most nights. But I need to save a lot of money to go on this extravagant vacation of ours coming up again towards the end of summer. So I’m wondering if you have any suggestions on how to save more dollahhhs? I guess I’ll first start by saying I need to book hotels in advance to get the best bang for my buck. Right? See if there’s a continental  breakfast, and when I arrive as for a free upgrade? lol. I’ve heard that works. Pretty safe to say that I need to do one or two “no buy months” prior to my vacation. Huh!?

Suggest away please!

Twitter networking

I think twitter is really great. There are so many endless networking possibilities. I mentioned on there the other day that I was looking for plane tickets so the BF and I could fly to BC to attend Ironman Canada again in August. Then what do you know, @Canadaironman ended up following me on twitter. I took notice, and wrote him a friendly hello and he “Direct Messaged” me saying:

canadairoman Thank you for following Ironman Canada! Wishing you all the best in your grueling training. Keep it up! Ron Zalko Founder of Ironman Canada”.

Pretty impressive, I have to say. I thought that was the coolest thing that he wrote me. I showed Scott and promptly replied to him: “canadairoman Thanks! My boyfriend does all the suffering. He completed his first Ironman (at Penticton!) last year :) See you in August!”

Boy oh boy. It’s the little things in life that makes me smile.

So who wants to sponsor my Boyfriend in training? Haha!! He’s pretty hardcore, if I do say so myself. He’s self-motivated by training alone all the time, and not missing a workout. All that training in home gyms he’s in impeccable shape. I cannot wait to see him complete his second Ironman, this year. :)

Recap of our vacation + Ironman in 6 parts (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), and (6).

Oh! I’m getting my hair cut at a new (to me) salon tomorrow. I’m pretty sure I’m not going to cut much off except have a trim. But stay tuned for before/after pictures! Have a heck of a good Friday evenin’!
