Sock bun tutorial

Dude. You guys.

I mastered the sock bun. I’ve seen it on YouTube for the past year or so, and I’ve just never tried it because I thought I didn’t have enough hair to cover the bun, or that it wouldn’t work in my hair. Don’t be fooled. You can do it too.

Boy oh boy! It looks great and I’ve been wearing it like this a few times per week. It’s so easy, and it’s so put together.

I ended up filming a tutorial on how to do it. It’s just three minutes long, and it’s mostly me rambling on. It’s honestly really quick. See?

I was even feeling so daring that evening, when I first learned how to do it — that I started playing with other styles. I tried french braiding my hair and it was really difficult because my hair is silky (jealous? lol) and hard to work with. Maybe I need second-day hair and a little more texture in order to keep my hair in place.

A lil’ grease won’t hurt, if ya know what I mean.

Are you adventurous with your hair? I rarely do any changes to mine. Pony tail, or straight down. But now I’ve got options, ha!

Pay phone

With work, I do a bit of traveling a few times per month. Traveling meaning driving to the neighboring city to visit the other offices. One day last week my co-op student Patrick, and I were cruising down one of the country roads and had the windows down, music loud and just enjoying the summer.

Here’s the scene: Maroon 5 — Pay Phone, came on the radio.

Patrick and I got to talking about how we never see pay phone’s around anymore. Am I right? I mean seriously, when’s the last time you saw one?

Which got me thinking and I want to tell you a little story. Let’s go back… wayyyy back to my childhood. I don’t think cell phones existed. I remember pagers did before cells. I won a pager off a local radio station and had my parents “buzz” me when they wanted me to call home. I felt like a drug dealer with one of those pagers. So silly.

Okay sorry, getting off topic. Trying to tell you my story of using a pay phone.

I remember back when I was in Junior High (grades 6, 7, 8) and I always went to the movies with some friends. But instead of putting a quarter in the pay phone, calling home to my parents to pick me up for the evening. I dialed ‘0’ and asked the operator if I could make a collect call. If some of you recall, you remember a voice recording came over the phone then and asked “please speak your name – beeep” _______ and it gives a certain amount of time frame to say your first name only.

Let me tell you folks a lil’ somethin’ somethin’ about me.

I was the QUEEN of collect calls. Because during that allotted time frame I managed to speak so fast to tell my parents where I was and when to pick me up. Basically a huge blurting out of “NancyHereComeGetMeAtAvalonMallBye!” Oh I had it right down pat you guys. I even got my friends doing it! I always saved those quarters for my piggy bank, not the pay phone. My parents always wondered how I was always “in the money”.

Now you know a random fact about me…

Another random fact. I’m off to a Charity Golf tournament for work today — a whole day and evening event. Maybe I’ll be participating in some sort of tailgating food? We all know I love me some food.

Le Curler – which one are you?

I love sprucing up my “best” feature: my eyes. As I’m sure plenty of you already know, I’m a huge fan of Make Up For Ever smoky lash mascara. But I never just apply mascara to my bare lashes. Curling them makes your eyes look more awake, look fuller and longer.

I have a tiny tip for you for curling your lashes. Place your lashes in the curler, push the lever and tilt your lever towards the air to crimp the lashes even more. I currently have a few favorite eyelash curlers and I’m always on the hunt for new one’s.  It’s always good to replace your curler as with due time, it doesn’t curl your lashes as much. Then can come in a variety of price ranges too, so pick one up that suits your fancy.

For instance, Lancome just came out with a new eyelash curler product called Le Curler. It’s easy to use with its no-slip grip, which is neat. Plus there won’t be and pinching or pulling out any eyelashes. That can be kind of painful. I know I’ve done it a few times too many with ill fitting curlers. The pads are made out of silicone which will prevent breaking. However, I’m not sure of the price point of the Lancome eyelash curler would be, since I don’t own one myself.

There are a few different feature videos that Lancome came out with. Watch these quick little segments and see what kind of curler you are.

Are you a “First Time Curler”?

Perhaps a Savvy Curler Girl?

Or maybe you’re a Blogging Curler Girl?

Are you a Makeup Artist Secret curler?

Me? I’m a Savy Curler Girl, but I never “walk out” the curler to create a round type of shape.

What kind of curler do you identify yourself with? I think curling your lashes with a bit of mascara is one of the simplest steps in a beauty routine. If you love wearing just a natural face sans foundation and still want a “perk me up” type of look, curling those lashes will do that for you!
