Simple skincare for my toddler

When bebs was born, I was overwhelmed with the amount of e-mails coming through to me about sharing their skincare brands for me to try out on my son. I’ve heard some great things about some brands, so I accepted some of those in the past. But upon using some, I noticed my son had unfortunately inherited sensitive skin from me. Reacts to a lot of products! So, I’ve had to step back and go back to basics just like my own skincare. Keep it simplified and our skin is happier that way with less reactions to products. There’s only a handful of products that we use on him. I’ve yet to mix things up and try new products because I just don’t want his skin to get sore or irritated.

He’s pretty close to two and a half, and so for the last year I’ve been going back to simple basics for him when I put him in the bathtub for a soak. No more bubble bath and bubbles (it gave him a bit of a rash!), as much fun as it was. At least he has a ton of bath toys to keep him entertained while he’s in there. He could stay in the tub for an hour if we let him!

Here are the few simple skincare products I use for my toddler:

Aveeno Baby Daily Moisture Lotion (I use this on my legs too after shaving and showering since it’s super hydrating and my skin stays super moisturized)
Johnson & Johnson baby bar soap & baby shampoo (old school products, yes but those are what have been working thus far for bebs)

And that’s it.

What do you guys use on your babys skin? Do you have any other recommendations of what products I should try on him that is hypo-allergenic and good for soft toddler skin? I’d love to hear your input – please and many thanks!

My latest prAna purchases

My Mom’s last few days here in California was right before everything was shutdown due to COVID. One of our last outings was to Palo Alto to browse around the beautiful Stanford Shopping Center. After that we drove across a few streets to get to the Town and Country Village, where I know they have a prAna store. I LOVE that store so much. In the past (around 2017, and 2018) I worked with them fairly regularly to promote new launches and new campaigns they had social media influencers working on.

I’m no stranger to prAna’s clothing as I remember my friends back in Newfoundland wearing them while we went climbing, back in the late 90s! So when I had the chance to work with them and try their clothing out for myself, I was hooked. I still have and wear most of the items that they sent me in the past. They wash and hold up incredibly well, even if you chuck them into the dryer. I still can’t get over how they still look pretty much brand new.

So, I waltzed into the Palo Alto store, tried on a handful of things I knew I wanted to try, and walked out with an updated (and smaller!) pair of leggings for myself.Â I liked the oversized fit (and especially the colour) of this cozy up sweatshirt, but I didn’t like how it bunched around my waist.

You can tell I felt great in this outfit! These are the transform leggings I ended up buying. For my birthday, I asked my husband to pick up the cozy up summer pullover for me – and he did. I’m pleased as punch.

These are the transform leggings in the green shade. I liked them a lot too, but I knew I’d get more wear out of the black ones. Plus, I already have a pair of olivey-greenish leggings.

I clearly did not want to leave the dressing room without buying the top too, but I couldn’t justify dropping all that cash at once, even though I reallllllllly loved the top. I knew I wanted to walk in there and get an updated pair of leggings.

1 Sephora purchase: Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi

Drunk Elephant’s D-Bronzi was the only thing on my buy-list when the recent Sephora sale happened at the end of April. I’m at the bottom of the ladder when it comes to their point system, so I got 10% off my total purchase. Which was fine, because I wanted to have my freebie birthday gift mailed to me, since all stores are still closed (presumably) due to COVID.

It’s no surprise I love to self-tan and I’ve been doing so since 2011. I am pretty regular about it, minus a few months during the winter months. I like the way my skin looks when it has a sunkissed look to it.

Before purchasing anything, I always go ham and read every review under the sun about it.Â I was a bit hesitant at first when I heard someone recommend it, because although I’ve only tried one thing from Drunk Elephant in the past (last year’s Sephora birthday gift) it gave me a weird reaction and I haven’t used it since. So I was wondering what this D-Bronzi stuff was like, and why it received such high reviews on Sephora’s site: 4.5 out of 5!

Well folks, those reviews came through. I bought it, and it’s a game changer after only one use. I had already done my self-tan routine for my 40th birthday, but the tanner never seems to stick on my lower legs the last couple of years. Weird hey? My legs are just immune to the DHA now or what? Who knows. Either way, I applied my SPF50 sunscreen all over my legs, added a generous 5-6 pumps to each of my legs mixed with the sunscreen and holy boom did it ever look good. And you know what? It dried down to feel like my regular skin. No sticky feeling, no tacky, and it didn’t rub off on my clothes or fingers when I tried to see if it would lift. It also gave an unreal glow, making the legs look gooooooood. This is in the mid-day sun without a filter.

Look how dark it is! Keep in mind I do have self-tanner on my legs. I’m that dark because I have some self-tanner on my legs, with the Drunk Elephant D Bronzi layered over top for an extra amount of colour and glow.

Here’s a more subtle everyday approach, and what I’ll probably be doing the majority of the time. Applying a single pump to my facial moisturizer to give my skin an even glowy-sunkissed look.
