5 Reasons Why Cuddl Duds Are My Go-To Layers

As mentioned in the last blog post we’re slowly but surely we’re gathering everything up and packing up our first home here in California. Leaving that chapter, and starting it by getting ready for our little one’s arrival in the new year.

A few times I week I go over and explore the chic little neighbourhood and find myself wandering around every afternoon like I already belong. A true local. The Mister told me that the neighbours are definitely “not going to know what to think of me” — I suppose you can say I might liven up that neighbourhood, who knows. I’ve already met a few of them thus far. They seem normal! But I can be naive lol.

I’m sure I’ll count my blessings in February upon baby’s arrival, when my fifteen minutes to get ready buzzes with the cries of a newborn. And you betcha I’ll be slipping into some easy to wear, and layer, Cuddl Duds (you can buy ’em at JCPenney!). I think it’s the velvet.

I love velvet everything.

I bought a velvet-like blanket at Target last year for our bed.

I also bought some velvet leggings that I’ve worn-to-death and should be retired soon. But they won’t be.

Velvet scrunchies? Yup. I got those too.

If you ask me to define my style, I’d have to say I’ve finally figured out what colours I reach for, what colours make me feel vibrant (without using too many bold colours ha!) and confident. The vibe is pretty much what it always has been, laid back, somewhat tomboy style, but always classic. I’d say I fit into this California casual look pretty easily, with lots of natural earth tone shades (olive greens, blush pinks, greys and whites are my name of the game + throw in some black for good measure).

You know you’ve truly acquired a great staple piece when you wear it multiple times within the same week. Only taking it off to wash hang to dry, wear and repeat. It’s the case of the comfortable can’t help but touch, super soft velvet like leggings from Cuddl Duds (well technically called Double Plush Velour). The epitome of fall comfort.

I visualize myself styling them endless ways, from chunky knits and riding boots to long flowy tops and slip on sneakers, carrying me all throughout the season. Not to mention the fact they’re under $50. Spose it doesn’t hurt to pick up a backup pair for myself because lord knows I’ll be wearing these out before 2018 rolls around. It doesn’t have to have a high price tag to look good. At least, that’s what I keep telling myself these last few years without a steady paycheque and (some) disposable income. (Clearly) I partnered with Cuddl Duds to put together this look from the collection, and it’s an outfit that I’m excited to wear leading up to the cooler months.

Items shown:
Long Sleeve Crew Top – Color: Black (Fleecewear with Stretch)
Legging – Color: Black (Double Plush Velour)
Long Sleeve Crew Top – Color: Marled Grey (SoftKnit)

I also received two tops I should probably discuss here as well. But you can tell that the star of the show (for me) are the leggings. The tops are really comfy and are definitely a great layering piece. They’re almost the sort of layers you’d pair under some clothes if you were going skiing, or in my case, perhaps visiting Canada in the winter. I’m going back to buy another pair of the velvet leggings. Maybe in a smaller size, I was generous in my sizing.

Some days I come to the new house, and sit in an empty room to escape the packing boxes chaos at our old place. I’m sitting in the nursery (which we obviously have done nothing with, thus far). I also don’t always have someone on-hand to take a fancy photo of me for every.single.blog.post. This is what you get. And here are 5 Reasons Why Cuddl Duds Are My Go-To Layers:

  1. I want to wear something comfortable, stretchy, and non-restricting on my growing pregnant belly.
  2. Velvet. I love velvet.
  3. They exude the epitome of winter-time warmth and comfort.
  4. Even if you’re not pregnant and want to wear these leggings to a big ol’ turkey dinner meal, you totally can.
  5. Everything is easy to accessorize, sprinkle on your bracelets, rings, watches, add a scarf and top with a lightweight coat.

I’m ready to chill hard on the front porch for the afternoon and let the seconds go by a little slower.

What a week its been…

Oof! What a week it’s been.

I’m short on blog deadlines — and not because I don’t realize it. I’m not sure I’ve officially announced it here on the blog or not, so I’ll sneak it into today’s blog post. We bought a house! It’s just that we’re super busy with the house, hunting for appliances, buying appliances, Alfie’s been sick for a good week, and going to my many doctor appointments. Seriously I think I have 4 a month, or so.

This week they all lined up on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Between appointments I was packing up our kitchen and living space. There’s a lot on our plate! But it’s all good things. At one appointment (our detail scan) on Monday, as I was driving my phone rang (Scott answered) and they told us the power went out at the Dr’s office. So, we drove back home and they rescheduled us for a different location, later that day. We drove to the second location, only to realize everyone and their dog had been reschedueled to that spot too, so we waited 1hr 15 min for our flippin’ appointment. And you know what? You gotta have a full bladder too at some of those!

I’m pretty sure it all evaporated by the time my appointment came.

Speaking of those detail scans, I gotta be honest here… they’re creepy looking by the way: 3D/4D scans. The kid is so little that obviously everything isn’t fully grown yet. At one point I asked the sonographer if the kid even had a nose “yet”. Then on the photo it looks like he’s definitely taking after both parents here (hi, we have prominent schnozzes lol) Sheesh! I can’t tell what I’m looking at lol. I definitely spoke up about it, and as soon as she flipped from x-ray looking to totally 3D/4D, I was all “WHOA…. weird.” I’m sure she was simply expecting an “aww” out of us. I’ll say it how it is b’ys. It’s weird. But in kind of a cool way.

Sorta.

Needless to say I’m feeling subsconciously stressed. I always say subconciously because I don’t feel stressed for the most part. It’s just a few times a week when I get overwhelmed, not sure what to do next with the house-prep, etc….then we all freak out lol. This week has been the worst for it. I’ve never felt so angry and for no good reason! It’s making me feel weird.

In other news, let’s pop in another OOTD in here a few bottom pieces from prAna‘s fall launch (which was sent to me as a #sweatpinkpartner. #prAnaFallStyle17 #prAnaStyle #sweatpink). I’ve been diggin’ outfit of the day posts lately.

Thought I have to say, one of the first things in the apartment I packed for the move, was my clothing. I donated countless bags of unwanted pieces, and packed away 90% of my wardrobe. I have probably 10-15 tops hanging in my closet currently, and you know what? I don’t miss the other items. Sure I don’t even know what the heck is even in the packed boxes for heaven sakes. And guess what? I’m probably going to be ruthless when opening it back up to hang it all back into my closet — and back to the donation site with more bags. Now, let’s see if I can do this with the majority of stuff (makeup, haircare, skincare, local friends — I know you’ll want some! Ha!).

Who’s ready for the weekend, raise your hand! Although I don’t have a full-time job, I treat the stay-at-home sitch like one. I do the daily chores that I set out for myself, and whatever else needs to be done. Weekends are days off for everyone in this household.

What do you have on the go this weekend?

Psst..Can you tell I’m craving the oldschool blogging technique? Typing out thoughts in my head, not really spell-checking/grammar checking/etc. I am bringin’ the good ol’ days back you guys. Ha!!!

Exploring the tiny town of Pescadero (+OOTD!)

Earlier last week my friend Elisabeth and I drove down the scenic California coastline on highway 1, for my pregnancy announcement shots in the Mazda CX9 that was loaned to me for the week. But you know who had to be the first passenger? Alfie — of course. He always is. Little smiley pup! I love it when I take him on adventures and he has this huge smile on his face.

After we were done shooting the pregnancy announcement photos (I loved how they turned out! There’s tons posted on my Instagram), I drove us up to Pescadero which is a tiny town of less than 700 people.

The Mazda CX9 was a great ride to bring down highway 1. Look how fancy it is inside, too!

Pescadero has a sweet little downtown area with a handful of spots to check out, like the new Pescadero Flowery where I bought a bouquet of dried lavender that smells up the entire room its in, so relaxing! There’s only one coffee shop, and it’s called Downtown Local, and it certainly stands out — inside anyway. It’s definitely a bit funky looking inside with its wonky antiques that you can’t help but explore and check out.

While I was at the coffee shop I changed from my off-the-shoulder top (because it was flippin’ up over my shoulders when I was driving and: annoying!) into a prAna penelope pullover from their fall line. prAna sent that and the jeans I’m wearing in the photo above. Pretty sure the pullover is going to be my go-to until my spiffykerms baby can’t fit into it anymore. It’s super soft and isn’t tight or uncomfortable anywhere — it’s perfect for this time in my pregnancy right now.

Wearing:
prAna penelope pullover
prAna Kara jean (colour: denim)
Target pink slip-ons (faux suede)
Google Moto 360 smart watch
Banana Republic clutch (10+ years old)

I am obsessed with decaf iced lattes lately. And not due to pregnancy— I just love’em!

I’ve only been to Pescadero once before, and it was when my Husband introduced it to me (on my birthday, back in May actually!). He goes there pretty much every weekend as a pitstop along the way when he does his billion hour bicycle journey with friends every Saturday. So he’s quite familiar with the area. I bought a chocolate chip scone back on my birthday at the Arcangeli Grocery/Norms Market and it was delicious (and I don’t even love scones), and sure enough you betcha I bought another there last week too. Mmm!

Make sure to check out Elisabeth‘s post of Pescadero — she did an awesome job showing where you should explore!
