Well hello from sunny California
Wow, it’s been close to a month since I last checked into the good ol spiffykerms blog.
We are now in NorCal and arrived last Monday. I’m currently at the local starbucks because we don’t have internet set up at home yet. I feel like a real blogger now, blogging at some local coffee shop….in California no less. Ha!
The whole blogging on an iPad is very finicky, and taking a lot longer than it should.
Luckily I have a friend here already that I met in 2011 at BlogHer’11 but I’ve known her online over ten years. She’s less than 5km away, and she has been a god send. I’d link Jessica’s website but that’s getting too technical. Her blog is over at teamwiking.com.

Chevrolet Canada, one of the main sponsors of BlissDom has given me a ticket to attend the blogging conference in Mississauga from October 3-5. I’m not entirely sure how I’m going to be getting to the conference just yet, but I have booked off Friday October 4 off work to attend. Travelling there isn’t really set in concrete but I’ll probably end up taking my own car. I’ll only be staying one night at the Delta Meadowvale hotel where the conference is happening and I’ve noticed that Philosophy (one of my favorite skin care lines) is set up in the bathrooms.
 Get those eagle eyes to work.
This will be my first experience with BlissDom Canada, as last year I attended the She’s Connect Conference in Toronto and the year before that, BlogHer in California.
BlissDom and Meadowvale Hotel has given us some pretty great deals when it came to booking my hotel room. Free wifi in all the rooms and free parking. There’s even a Starbucks served on site, full gym facilities and of course as I mentioned… Philosophy products in the room. Can’t wait to enjoy it all. Unfortunately I leave in the morning on the 4th, for the event. Which just happens to be my boyfriends birthday. Oops. I will make it up to him. He’s been gone on my birthday before too ;)
I’m most excited about meeting the faces I’ve been e-mailing the past year or so (Hi Sarah, from Philosophy! Hi Kaitlin from Chevy!) and meeting new blog friends to connect with and relate to. Since I’ve been blogging since 2003 or even longer (I honestly cannot remember when I started), I feel like I can’t pack any more into my brain about blogging. But I always welcome and appreciate attending the seminars throughout the conference.
I’ll do my best to tweet and instagram throughout the event on the weekend of October 4 and 5, and possibly handing out free swag from a favourite company of mine with my business card button attached. So stay tuned for that.

Top face cream winner
Philosophy has been my favorite skin care line for the past two years. Ever since I went down to California and tried it at BlogHer’11, I’ve been hooked.You guys already know how much I rave about their purity cleanser (here and here). Well. I’ve got another favorite, product. Dear I say holy grail? Is that over used too much? Apologies if you’re sick of hearing that term phrase. But it’s my new favorite product.
I did not know that they made more than one hope in a jar formulation, however. That part was a bit disappointing since I bought the dry skin formula thinking it would be exactly the same as the normal skin type cream. I was wrong.
You can tell from the photo below that the creams are two very different in consistency. Also, on your face.
The one on the left is the dry skin, the one on the right is the one I’d like to rave about.
It’s a lightweight whipped consistency that is a dream to apply. You only need a smidge of it and your makeup just glides on top.
I’m not the biggest fan of the dry skin forumula, because it’s too hydrating for my skin. My makeup slips off and it’s just a mess. I cannot return it to Sephora since it came in a trio set. Thankfully it’s only the smaller jar and I’ve revoked its duties for my day time skin, and now I ocassionaly use it on my skin before bed.
Back to my fav product – Hope In a Jar for normal skin.
PROS:
- Â Soo hydrating on winter skin
- Does not leave oily residue ontop of skin, sinks in beautifully
- A little dab’l do ya
- Smells nice
CONS:
- Read the label before you buy it! (lol) – Make sure you’re getting normal forumla, not dry skin.
- It’s pricy
I’m not sure how this moisturizer will be on my skin during the summer time. Since it’s a light weight formulation, I’m excited to try it in hopes that it won’t be too heavy. So, we’ll see! I’ll report back :)
OVERALL:
This is my favorite facial moisturizer for winter. It keeps my skin hydrated and plump. My makeup as I said above, just glides on like a dream. Using this in conjunction with my Clarisonic Mia2, I don’t have any dry patchy skin. Then again, winter is pretty much over. So maybe it’s the weather, ha ha.Â
