Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks (swatches + review!)

Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks, Spring 2017Omg I’m thrilled to say that I received a surprise parcel from Dior the other week. My excitement for this parcel was real – I don’t think I was in the front door the entire way when I ripped open the UPS cardboard box it came in. It’s been a while since I’ve featured some brand new Dior goodies on the ol’ blog!

Dior Lacquer in rosesDior launched a new line of lipsticks, and they’re called the Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks, with 18 shades available and 4 colour categories to choose from, with pastel, neon, classic, and wild shades. I received four colours in three of the categories.

Peter Philips is doing an impeccable job since coming on as Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup. I’ve been really pleased with the launches he’s come up with, not to mention following along his journey on his daily Snapchat posts. He was inspired by the city of Los Angeles to create this new line of Lacquer Sticks. The pastels will consist of corals, lavender shades and pinks to look like a California postcard from the 50’s. Neon shades to mimic the bright LA city lights. Classic shades will have beautiful red carpet reds, and finally the wild shades are going to lean more on the grunge-side of things with the trendy brown shades.

I will note that the darkest shade shown here above, Sauvage, will likely require a lip liner as I noticed a smidge bleeding of the colour on my lips.

Like any Dior launch there are four “it-shades’ that are must-haves from the collection, and I have two of ’em! 877 Turn Me Dior, 684 Diabolo, 924 Sauvage, 550 Tease. If you want to see the colours in action I filmed a video too, it’s short at just 3 minutes, so go ahead and watch! :)

MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks New Shades

MAC Retro Matte Liquid LipsticksMAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks launched new shades at the beginning part of 2017, and while they do look pretty bold in the tubes, some of the shades I got I might actually wear in public! Lol.

MAC Retro Matte Liquid LipsticksWhile the Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks are in fact matte, they’re not uncomfortable. A little dry on the lips, but that’s the nature of the game with liquid lipsticks. I’m going to be honest — I don’t know if it’s only my lips but the colours don’t seem to last the intended time on me. I get a funny lip-liner look when I wear them for more than an hour. I haven’t tried wearing them with lipliner, but perhaps that’ll be my next experiment with these.

MAC Retro Matte Liquid LipsticksThe formula is easy to apply, and it blends smoothly and the pigmentation is substantial with intense colour payoff with one swipe giving you a completely matte finish.

Onto the swatches of the three unique nude-brown-grunge shades. Don’t forget to scroll to the bottom to see my short YouTube video of them, too!

Thinking the middle shade (Ess-presso) would be the easiest colour to wear on my complexion, I was wrong. I much prefer the cement-grey called Café Au Chic, and the blackened grape shade took me by surprise too, sure it’s a bold lip but that’s all in right now!

A few questions for you: What are your thoughts on this formula from MAC? Do you own any? Would you wear any of the shades I have on my lips, above? If you were to select any of the three above which would you choose?

Mary Poppins returns

Mary Poppins Returns
Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) returns to the Banks home after many years and uses her magical skills to help the now grown up Michael and Jane rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives in MARY POPPINS RETURNS, directed by Rob Marshall.

Well have I got some supercalifragilisticexpialidocious news for you! Take that spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down, and get ready for it because Mary Poppin’s is returning to theaters.

Being on the Disney PR list is exciting, mainly for the fact I get a heads up when the newest releases are coming out, and this one in particular brings me right back to being a child. Disney’s 1964 film MARY POPPINS is making a comeback, and it’s going to star Golden Globe® winner Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins. It’ll also be starring Colin Firth and Meryl Streep.

The film, which introduces three new Banks children, played by Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh and newcomer Joel Dawson, also features Dick Van Dyke and Angela Lansbury (who remembers her from the 80s show, ‘Murder She Wrote’? I used to watch that all the time with my Dad!).

The film is set in 1930s depression-era London (the time period of the original novels) and is drawn from the wealth of material in PL Travers’ additional seven books. In the story, Michael and Jane are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen, living on Cherry Tree Lane.

After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack, uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy (Streep).

MARY POPPINS RETURNS will be released in U.S. theaters on December 25, 2018!
