My CrossFit Journal (week 37)

Since yesterday was my OOTWW and Friday was Tanya’s, today is my CrossFit journal posting. I’m still having difficulty finding the time to balance CrossFit and climbing together. I’m considering morning workouts at CrossFit, but I honestly don’t want to. I’m really not a morning person. I know you can train your body used to it, but do I really want to drive 10 minutes in the winter and work out at 6am? Meh…we’ll see.

Week 37 Day 1.

Back Squat
5-5-5-5-5

I have a new personal record for my backsquat. Back in July, which was exactly 17 weeks ago I could only lift 80lbs for my max. Now I passed 85lbs and now my new max is 90lbs! I did five in total. I first bumped from 85lbs to 95lbs and could only do two and dropped the weight. So I put it back down to 90 and my depth was still there. Success!!!

I made a joke to myself and on Twitter that night, saying I can back squat your grandma. There are some really strong people at CrossFit. It’s amazing what some of the girls the same size as me can back squat. One girl was over 185lbs for hers. Insane, right??? I’d feel my quads would pop off if I did that lol

Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

I’m not sure how many people actually know what I do as a living. I’m a Graphic Designer and I also am involved in Marketing. I am the only designer here, and I work at a place where there are three office in three neighboring cities. Tri-city area if you will. Every few months we have a staff meeting at a local conference center and we talk about work related things, like you would at a staff meeting. Mid-September was our last meeting and at the end of it one of the management asked the staff to volunteer to start a Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. I raised my hand and took everything over.

Since I’m on twitter all of the time, I contacted a few companies from there and got a few prize donations generously sent to me. Since that head start I then ended up calling local companies to support the cause. Everyone was SO helpful and willing to help out.

This is the poster that I’ve designed to get the word out for our staff to support Breast Cancer Awareness month.

I presented the “ECU lottery” poster at the staff meeting which was on the 19th and announced everything then. I think everyone was impressed with all of the goodies that they were eligible to win. 14 amazing prizes!

An e-mail went out where I explained how they win, where the staff came back at me like it was a stag and doe type of raffle. I suppose you could classify it as that. You can buy as many tickets as you’d like, scroll through all of the 14 prizes, fill out a ballot and place your name in the envelopes. At the end of the campaign, I will draw names out of those numbered envelopes and pull winners! Exciting, right?

On the 28th I asked the staff to wear pink and then that would be the FUN DAY. Where hors d’ourves were being catered in, pizza for lunch was getting delivered, 8 spa gift cards were given out and 14 prizes that everyone “bid” on. Here are some photos from Friday.

Julie made some cupcakes and sold them for $1.00 each!

Amy, my bosses daughter who works with us — took all the photos for the day. This is her and I posing with the amazing treats. They were delicious ;)

Hayyy I’ve got cupcakes for booblets!!!!

Julie (remember her from earlier?) was excited that she won the $200 hair product gift basket shown below.

We screamed, we cried, and jumped for joy.

Then, fell over and laughed some more. Oopsie!

Sitting at my desk, busy busyin’ away…

Here are just some of the 14 prizes that were donated by companies from all over! Obviously I blurred out my full name, along with some other things I don’t want people seeing, ha!

Oh, I guess I should show you all of the amazing prizes.

Me with all the 14 prize donations for 35 staff, good chances to win!

I cropped my co-workers out who don’t know about my blog, and I’d rather not say “Hey can I include your photo on my website?”  lol But here are a number of staff drawing names for the prizes…

I’m really proud of myself for taking this from start-to-finish. We raised a total of $733.00 — Everyone loved it and I’m ecstatic to hear that. :)

It was SUCCCHHH a long day though. So exhausting!

Damp climate = dry hands?

Damp climate = dry hands? Well that doesn’t make sense, does it?

I forgot to pack lotion when I flew home to Newfoundland over the weekend to spend time with my family during Thanksgiving. I guess no matter the weather conditions, my chalked-up hands from CrossFit and Climbing require moisture at every moment. My trip was from Friday evening to Wednesday night, the trip was long enough that it didn’t feel too short, and wasn’t overly too long of a stay. I spent oodles of time with my nephews (ages 5 and 3) and have a ton of adorable photos to show you all. Sneak peak? Aw, well ok!

Homemade pizza’s with Ancy Nancy (that’s what the little guy calls me since he can’t pronounce the T).My little fellas hanging out on the couch with me at my parents place. There’s a funny (to me) story about this little red wagon the boys found at the mall. I’ll have a special post dedicated to my trip this weekend, or maybe next week. My boyfriend Scott didn’t end up going with me back to our home – he’s from Newfoundland as well. He’s saving his vacation for Christmas. Smart man, I say. Anyway, relatives and friends were all checking out my ring finger in case there were any unexpected engagement rings on it. Sorry to disappoint! It’s still bare, ha ha!

I returned back to Ontario late last night and had a very busy at work. Very busy evening too, which included volunteering by belaying (holding the rope at the climbing gym) for a party. The system they have going at most (?) climbing gyms, is that they have the regulars come in and volunteer to belay for a few hours and in return we get to climb for free! Sweet deal if I say so myself.

There ya have it… I’m back to regular blogging once again. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s OOTWW even though it’s only for two days, today and tomorrow’s outfits. I love short weeks :)
