My pal Teri over at A Foodie Stays Fit did this questionnaire not too long ago, and I thought it was way-over due that I did something a little more personal on the blog.
1. What brings you the greatest joy? Scott. My nephews!!! Alfie posing for pics lol. Laughing. Cruising around California (honestly I love it here). Fun upbeat music.
2. What are your vices? Going to coffee shops. I guess it’s not that bad of a vice. Wait. Candy. I guess candy…because: sugar. Mmm.
3. What is on your nightstand? My nightstand is pretty tiny since it’s just this table. I keep 2 rose lip balms on there (dior, and bobbi brown), a dior apricot cuticle cream, my iPad and my phone (plugged in).
4. Do you have a secret talent? YES OMG. I can chirp like a bird! LOL. I used to work in an office and one of my co-workers (Hi Gloria!) fell for it every time, looking up at the ceiling thinking that a bird was stuck in the tiles. Ha!
5. What is your greatest indulgence? Ugh. Junk food. Espresso drinks. Popcorn. Candy. I love makeup too though.
6. What should everyone try at least once in their life? Living on their own! Traveling alone. Eating at a restaurant alone. (I stole this answer from Teri who took it from Christina, but I 100% agree with all of these also!). While I haven’t lived alone, ever (I’m not sure I’d be okay with that)… I travel solo a lot, and eat alone a lot too! I don’t mind.
7. What makes you laugh? Scott. Alfie. Immature jokes. Friends.
8. What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?  I guess it’s my ‘party trick’ from back in the days when I climbed 5-6 times a week. I could do multiple pull-ups/chinups on door frames. Watch a really really really old video of me doing it here. I also competed in the Nationals (once) back in the early 2000’s, I guess I don’t tell many people that. While I still climb (21 years of climbing!), I’m not as hardcore as I used to be.
9. What is on your bucket list? Buying a house! I want to travel more. I love exploring with our little family of three (Me, Husband Alfie), and want to do that more. I still want to visit places all over the world (Germany, Italy, Australia… I could go on!).
10. What is on your feet right now? I’m barefoot sitting here at the computer. But I just wore my cheapie Charlotte Russe brown flip flops (seen here) to grab an iced espresso.
11. How did you make your first dollar? Well Teri’s answer was so cute, selling rocks! Haha! If I’m not counting my first real job (Tim Hortons!), I would probably say singing Christmas Carols with my older brother at the neighbours houses all down our street. They gave us money to sing, and we were all about it! Haha.
12. What superstition do you believe in? I always seem to throw salt over my shoulder if I spill it on the table. I also knock on wood. I guess those count!
15. What is on your liquor shelf? We have a wine-cabinet in our kitchen, but don’t drink often. So we have a full stock pile now. I just counted 5 bottles of wine, a liqueur, and a whole lot of beer.
16. What is on your kitchen counter? Oh man there’s a lot. We have a lot of flat surfaces in our kitchen (in fact, I think it’s the biggest kitchen I’ve ever had in a home). I have Alfie’s food that needs to be put away. A half-roll of paper towels (select-a-size!). A Nespresso Dolce Gusto (see my review lol). A printer. Some decorations from Newfoundland. 2 Pineapple jars with lids (I love them). A toaster. An air fryer. And on our kitchen island we have the Amazon Echo (have you guys used one of those? They’re so cool). I think that’s it…
17. What would you never leave home without? Such a boring answer for me but, cash, ID, and phone.
Question for you: What’s on your nightstand?
It has been so long since I did a casual/informal outfits of the week blog post on here! I miss switching up my outfits and styling them differently each day, but when I’m at home most of the time, I often find myself reaching for the same pair of jeans (those comfy Zara ones!) and a plain tee. Boring ol’ OOTD’s day in and day out, but it works, and it’s easy.
I’ve switched things up a bit this week and decided to document a couple of days worth of outfits, especially since I am working with Tobi clothing, an online clothing store similar to Forever 21 or H&M quality. It was hard for me to pick out a few pieces to review because their collection of everything from Necklaces, Pencil Skirts, to High Low Dresses was absolutely huge. I decided to stick with my comfort zone and pick out some classic pieces that I’d wear more often.
California Casual /// Warmer Than Life Sweater + Zara Jeans + Charlotte Russe flip flops
A perfectly oversized off the shoulder knitted sweater, flip flops ‘n’ jeans? Doesn’t get any easier than that for a California casual day. This has to be my favourite outfit from the entire week. The sweater fits perfectly and is going to be a staple in my wardrobe for sure. For reference, I got a medium in this sweater and I’m usually a small — but I think I made the right decision because it hits just below the hips and looks great off the shoulder.
Layering Made Easy /// Suzy Shier jacket + Old Navy light hoodie + Zara Jeans + American Eagle Belt + Target Sneakers + Banana Republic clutch
If you follow me on Instagram you probably got a sneak peek of what I wore when I went to the Bay Area blogging meetup at a coffee shop in downtown Los Altos. This is pretty much what I wear on an everyday basis — those jeans are my favourite with distress marks in the perfect spots. I now need Target to get back on the ball and bring back these slip on faux-Vans. They’re the best thing ever!
Not My Go-To Top /// My Go To Top + Lululemon tank + Forever 21 Jeans + Charlotte Russe flip flops
My least favourite outfit and I would not recommend buying it from Tobi unfortunately. As soon as I held this shirt up when I opened the parcel my eyes widened. It was shaped like a square. I tried it on immediately and my husband asked me if it was a flying-jump-suit. You know those dare devils that jump off cliffs and glide back down to the ground? It honestly looked like that. Now, this time I paired it with jeans, something more suitable. When I first tried it, I was wearing leggings – and the shirt was noticeably shorter in the back than in the front. I’m not a fan of it mainly due to the square shaped, and the short-body (although looking at this photo it doesn’t look as short as it does in person). It’s also pretty pricey at $46, so if you’re into this shirt then it’s right up your alley, but I think there are better options on Tobi’s website than this tee.
Cozy Every Day /// Stolen Nights Swing Tee + Target Pants + Target sneakers + eBay sunglasses
These swinging type of tops where it’s longer by the hips and shorter in the front/back are my favourite types of tee’s to wear. I already own a couple of them in grey and white that I purchased from Forever 21. I think it pairs fantastic with the olive coloured jeans I picked up a few months ago from Target. A cozy every day outfit.
Thanks for Tobi for sending along some great pieces to me for review. New customers get 50% off their first order, which is pretty sweet, so take advantage of that if you’re looking for new additions to your wardrobe. Shop Tobi for more outfit ideas: Coats + Hoodies + One Piece Swimsuits.
Exploring.
Meeting new friends.
One of my favourite things to do in California.
Even though I wasn’t posting much on social media while I was home, I was still scrolling through Instagram to get my mind off things.
That’s when I randomly came across Bliss + Bale, a Bay Area California local who curates and makes custom gift boxes. Loving her aesthetic, I follow her immediately. I didn’t even realize she lived in the Bay Area when I first came across her Instagram page.
As per usual, as soon as I open my eyes in the morning, I’m immediately scrolling through Instagram. Luckily I came across one of the photos she posted mentioning she was having pop-up shop at Apis Floral, a local flower shop in the Willow Glen neighbourhood. So ya knows now, after my orthodontic appointment (my retainer broke!) I drove down to see what it was all about, and to speak to her in person! And to meet the friendly faces at Apis Floral while I was at it. Guys, it may seem like a sponsored post. It’s totally not. I’m just sharing the local-love.
Like I mentioned. Exploring. Meeting new friends. I love it. So I went in, and checked out the floral shop (which in’t just flowers, it’s a retail store as well – and just so gorgeous with all sorts of neat items to purchase for anyone, whether it be for their new home, their upcoming birthday, or just shopping for yourself. I picked up a few birthday cards for some friends while I was at it.
I want to let all the photos do the talking, so I’ll show you inside the gorgeously designed Apis Floral, which opened last year (and they are expecting to expand in the early fall to incorporate a coffee shop inside the floral shop! Talk about awesome. I can’t wait to see it all come together.
It was so great meeting you Andrea, and E! Hope we can meet up again soon.
