Get Ready With Me: Valentines Day

Get-Ready-With-Me-VdayThe second Beauty Talk Tuesday is a ‘get ready with me’ for Valentines Day post using a few of my favourite beauty products, along with some new ones that I am currently trying out. Whether you’re staying in with the girls, or going out on a date night, this Valentines Day look is for the woman that prefers subtle makeup. Mainly because I do not know how to do a smokey eye, and I prefer to look more natural than done up. Step by step, I will guide you on how to create this look, using products from philosophy, Dior, bareMinerals and a few others.

Let me know if you like the styling of the photos, and I’ll continue to take them this way. Lets jump into the makeup:Vday-Skincare

1. Dior Capture Totale Le Sérum: My skin is dehydrated so I apply a serum before any other products to lock in moisture.
2. philosophy miracle worker eye cream: A thicker silicone type eye cream, perfect for making the concealer glide on. Using my ring fingers I apply using a dabbing motion, not wiping in order to protect the delicate under eye area.
3. philosophy renewed hope in a jar: I am testing out this new formulation of hope in a jar. It has a lighter consistency than the regular version, it’s excellent for normal skin, but I still prefer the original.

Vday-Makeup1. bareMinerals Complexion Rescue (shades Ginger + Natural): This tinted hydrating gel cream is a brand new product out by bareMinerals. It provides a light to medium coverage, and I prefer mixing the two colours together to achieve a shade that matches my skin perfectly.
2. Cle de Peau concealer (in Beige): Applying concealer in a triangle under the eye immediately brightens the area up. Again, using a tapping motion with the ring finger not only protects the eye area, but keeps the product where you applied it, so it doesn’t smear your foundation.
3. Diorskin Nude Air Tan Powder: Bronzer is my favourite way to make my skin look like its been sun-kissed. I apply the colour to my forehead, temples, under the cheekbones, under the jaw line and on my nose then blend out any harsh lines with my foundation brush.
4. Dior Cheek & Lipglow: I thought this was a silly product when I first received it to review. But once applied, it creates a natural flush to the cheeks. I have been reaching for this on a daily basis over my cream blushes.

Vday-EyeMakeup1. Anastasia Brow Wiz in Caramel: This is an oldie but a goodie. I have dense brows as it is, but I like to reach for this when I am feeling a bit daring. I am not used to filling in my eyebrows, but I like to keep them manicured looking.
2. bareMinerals Lasting Line in Classic Cream: Using this flesh coloured eye pencil, I line my waterline to make my eyes appear wide awake and fresh faced.
3. Dior Backstage Eye Prime in 002: This product is well loved. An eye primer prevents your eye shadows from creasing, mutes out any veins or lines on your eyelid, and allows eye shadow to apply in its true colour.
4. Dior Kingdom Of Colours in House Of Pinks: Using each colour I created an everyday soft pink look with this neutral eye shadow palette.

Vday-Eyes-Lips-Nails1. Diorshow Kohl in black: A thin line of eyeliner is an excellent way to accentuate your eyelashes, and make them look fuller.
2. Tweezerman eye lash curler + bareMinerals Lash Domination mascara: You cannot finish a makeup tutorial and not make your lashes stand out. Lash Domination is a lengthening mascara with a plastic wand, so I didn’t see too much volumizing.
3. bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie lipstick in Dream Big: I think I have found my favourite nude lipstick. I felt confident wearing this all day long, and found myself applying it as soon as I noticed it wearing off.
4. bareMinerals Cream Glaze Lip Topcoat: A clear gloss to add some more attention to the lips. This lip gloss was a bit smelly, so I would use my Buxom or other bareMinerals gloss next time.
5. Dior Vernis in Glory and Top Coat in Blossoming: Painting my nails pink for Valentines day! I used only one coat of Glory, that’s how amazing the Dior formulation is. Then for an accent nail I used the playful confetti-like colour.

The final look!Valentines-Look

Dior Holiday 2014

Dior-Golden-Shock-headerChristmas! My favourite time of year, and what better way to celebrate that stuff with a bunch of Christmas collections coming out from the beauty front. I couldn’t wait any longer to post it! The collection has been available since October but I thought I’d save it and post about it when it feels a little more Christmasy and appropriate. Hands up, who has been blasting the Christmas music as of late? Anyone, anyone? I’d start playing it on November 1 if it wouldn’t annoy The Guy so much. He makes me wait until at least December 1, and even then he thinks it’s too early. What can I say, I love this magical time of year.

Onto the Dior Golden Shock collection for Christmas 2014:

Smoky-&-Golden-Shock

Diorific Vernis: the nail polishes from this collection are undoubtedly beautifully packaged and I have been setting them on my desk primarily for decoration. While I have been wearing 3 out of the 5 colours (Smoky*: a deep purple, Shock*: a bright Christmas red, and Golden Shock ($29): perfect amount of golden flecks added to the nail), I haven’t been wearing the other two as much since I like either a creamy colour on my nails – you can apply the other two (Mirror*: the sparkly translucent white, or the Gold Equinoxe*: a beige transparent colour) I don’t like the look of them on my nails. I was surprised to see that the formulation of some of the polishes from this collection aren’t as easy to apply as others. For instance the brushes are smaller and when I apply Smoky (my favourite dark purple) it’s streaky which is a bit disappointing considering it’s Dior. I haven’t had any issues with the red, however. Polishes are $28 with the exception of Golden Shock: $29.

Diorshow Fusion Mono: Mirror ($32), a gorgeous golden sheen eye shadow. It perfectly compliments the rest of the collection, don’t you think?

Dior Addict Gloss Two new glosses released for the holidays, Golden Rain* and Pink Excess* are easy to wear by themselves or over top of your favourite lipsticks. The two colours are diverse to amplify any colour you’re wearing.

Dior 5 Couleurs ($61): Golden Reflections* and Golden Shock* stay tuned to see how these swatch!

Diorific Golden Shock Illuminating Pressed Powder: While it is absolutely stunning in the rich gold packaging, it leaves much to be desired on the face. There’s too much yellow in this for my liking, so I will pass on advising this to you. You won’t find this anywhere else but Holt Renfrew for $82, so if you want to get your hands on it, pop on over!

Prices are in Canadian dollars. Products marked with  * = not available at Sephora.

Rouge Dior Lip Balm

Rouge-Dior-LipbalmA simple way to wear a coloured lip product. My kind of deal. While I’ve only ventured out of my comfort zone and wore Dior’s deepest lipstick colour from the previous collection outside of my house that one time, I’m much more comfortable starting it all off with a tinted lip balm. I don’t have to colour inside the lines, or keep anything looking sharp and straight on the lips. It’s forgiving for a lip newbie like myself.

4-Dior-lip-balmsAll the colours. I love each and every one of them. This isn’t an exaggeration, I’ve been wearing them every day in rotation because they’re that easy.

Dior states the days of choosing between lip care and makeup are over. Bursting with freshness, the allure created is one of youth, and vibrancy. Isn’t that the case.

As any tinted lip balm, it doesn’t last after a meal.

Lip-balms-by-DiorThe lip balm formula isn’t greasy nor does it bleed. I’ve had those kind of lip products before. They went straight to the garbage after I discovered it to bleed. Not one’s finest look.

Dior-Lip-BalmsWith any collection, there’s always a bit of hesitancy with a colour or two. This one being Star — thinking it would be too nude or shimmery on my lips. But turned out to tie with my other favourite, the darkest of the collection I received: Lili.

Dior-StarStar is initially marketed as a finishing touch to a lipstick, but I prefer to wear it on its own for a glossy effect.

Dior-SpringSpring is a beautiful sunny toned coral that brightens the face up, on those cloudy fall mornings where you’re missing the summer sun and simply don’t want to get out of bed. Pop this baby on, and you’re instantly radiant.

Dior-DioretteDiorette is more on the fuschia side of colours. Not too much of a difference between Lili and Diorette to be honest, but Diorette is more brighter and pinker.

Dior-LiliLili my favourite of the lot, it’s a berry colour that gives my own lips a “your lips but better” look. I dislike that phrase so much, but it’s the best way to describe it. A more muted colour than Diorette.

As for the swatches on my arm, Diorette and Lili come off differently. Left to right: Star, Spring, Diorette, Lili.Dior-Lip-Balm-Swatches

As you can see, the packaging on these new Rouge Dior Lip Balms which contains 0.11oz/3.2g  are more slender than the Dior Rouge which has 0.12oz/3.5g but the lip product inside is practically the same.Dior-Rouge-Balm-and-Lip

Dior-BalmsRouge Dior Lip Balm are $37 CDN each, and is available at The Bay, and thebay.com exclusive September 2014. All other Dior counters November 1, 2014.

What are your thoughts on the Rouge Dior Lip Balms, any catch your eye?

How often do you wear lip products?
