IKEA Makeover

I’ve been on an organizing kick lately. I mentioned in my closet organizing post that I was at Ikea and picked up some more pieces for our apartment.ikea shopping

Since I bought this as a “Surprise! I organized our apartment” while The Boyf was gone, I didn’t have any help bringing these up from the parking garage to our place.

Mind you, I started putting together the chair and decided to wait for The Boyf to come back home before I broke anything or put it on backwards and taking it apart is probably worse than putting it together from scratch from the beginning. Everything from IKEA is hard to put together. I can’t believe even the cardboard storage boxes required mini screws and bolts.

I showed you my desk makeover. Details of my IKEA purchases will be below.

ikea-deskThis desk is much nicer than my old one. Plus it’s a little longer by a few inches which means that it doesn’t feel as busy if there’s a few more things sitting on top.

I haven’t really started organizing the drawers. But here’s a peek inside starting from the top:

ikeabookshelfThat bookcase? I laughed about the situation I was in while bringing it upstairs. I was literally slow dancing with this 6 foot tall box. It was … no joke, about 150lbs and I couldn’t lift it up, nor push it on its side. Getting it up into the apartment was a feat in itself. Afterwards I was sweating, a lot. But I managed to do it!

top-ikea-drawerI knew I wanted storage space for all of my makeup and junk.

lower-ikea-drawerI used sturdy Glossyboxes to store things like facial cleansers, and razors.

Food prep, and organizing

I’ve been de-cluttering our apartment and getting rid of things that we just don’t need, making our space here more comfortable and stress free. So far I’ve tackled the living room (with a new addition to a desk which you’ll see soon!).

Here’s my old desk:desk

Then I’ve moved onto the bedroom cleaning up the closet:top-of-closet

And also floor space, adding an Expedit IKEA book case to store some things:ikea-bookcase

Next up, the kitchen space.

As I stated yesterday I am leaving for Newfoundland and that I was going to prep the Boyf with some food so he wouldn’t have to fend for himself making just meat and potatoes. I was in the hot kitchen last night making: macaroni and cheese, creamy chicken spaghetti, chicken teriyaki stir fry with rice…food-prep

and blueberry muffins. That should tie him  over. Spoiled or what? #BestGirlfriendOfTheYear.blueberry-muffins

So that means he needs a microwave to heat things up or defrost them from the freezer. It also doesn’t help that our microwave is on its way out. So we’re going to have to look into getting some microwave parts to try and fix it ourselves. Or some handyman to do it for us. Whichever.

It’s easy to get microwave replacement parts since all you do is just type in whatever you need, depending on your brand of course. Have you ever had to fix an appliance before?

Sneak Peak into the bedroom

I’ve gotten a few requests in the past to do an apartment tour, or even bedroom tour. While I’m not comfortable showing everything, I thought I’d just show some snippits of the place, so you all can get an idea of how we like to decorate our place. So, to start things off — here’s a sneak peak into our bedroom!

Duvet cover: IKEA
Grey sheets: Home Outfitters
Yellow pillow: From a home boutique in St. John’s, Newfoundland which closed down. Fun fact: The store was owned by Chris’ ( from the show Steven & Chris) Mother!
Large grey “velvet” pillows: IKEA

Bed photos recycled from this blog post.

I’ve replaced the paper lamp shown above (from IKEA) with this silly priced lamp, also from IKEA. I love my Urban Barn fake orchid that looks real! lol

My Fossil watch collection. Minus the cheap rose gold one I bought on eBay for fifteen bucks ha! Yes, there’s an orange haired troll doll in with my watches, along with a pink haired one, hidden in there somewhere. I had a collection of trolls as a kid, and only kept two.

Here are all of my tops. Winter, and summer. I think it’s time to purge some of this. Left-Right: Sweaters, Tanks, Plain tees, Blouses.

My makeup case. You can buy one here.

Oh yeah you guys. A purse piggy bank. I totally have money in it too. My Mom gave it to me for Christmas a few years ago.

Most of my shoes, excluding winter boots, and a few flats. I don’t like this setup since it looks messy. But it does the trick, for now.

Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown Foundation, and Bobbi Brown eye cream in an Anthropologie bowl.

Loving my fake (designer?) rose gold buckle bracelet from eBay. I put all of my bracelets that I wear on a regular basis in this pineapple shaped tea light candle holder from Bath & Body Works.

A painting I did ten (!!!) years ago. My favorite one I’ve ever done. I blacked out my last name, for obvious reasons.

Well that’s it you guys. Hope you enjoyed a small portion of the bedroom!
