OOTWW

It’s Friday the 13th you know. I’m not really superstitious, because if I was I’d be a much more anxious/worried person than I already am. But first, my outfits of the work week.

Bam.ootww

Crossing a black cats path? How about I just avoid cats altogether because cats in general freak me the F out.  Even talking about them makes me sweat. Yet somehow I always get talked into looking after friends/family members houses (which are usually filled with more than one cat and no dogs). Why can’t dog people ask me to house sit?

Find a penny and pick it up, all the day you’ll have good luck. Did you ever really have good luck picking up that penny? I always sang that little tune but I never did have anything spectacular stand out to me on those particular days. Now those days are getting far and few between since… well, Canadians don’t manufacture pennies any more.

Walking under ladders. Who would truly walk under a ladder anyway? I walk under scaffolding a lot when there’s construction going on, but not ladders. Those are small, and flimsy and may collapse!

A Rabbits Foot Will Bring You Luck. Don’t call PETA on me, but I remember my brother having a key chain with a dead rabbits foot on it at one point during our childhood. I never wanted one since I thought it was disgusting, but conveniently enough I was the luckier kid out of the two of us. I would always find money on the ground (I actually found a 50 euro note in Ireland while I was with my Brother!), or have better luck with ordinary day stuff.

Although, I do like to make a wish on a chicken wish bone,  don’t like to open umbrellas inside, and I knock on wood quite a bit. Always have and if there isn’t any wood around I knock on my head.

I’m pretty excited for this weekend. I’m driving to Toronto for a Make Up For Ever event at the Eaton Centre tomorrow. Then shortly after that I’m going to finally meet Leanne from Fresh Season, Erica from Waste My Time and a few other girls that I’ve hung out with before. We’ll be dining in one of my favorite parts of Toronto,  Yorkville for some food and just enjoying our time together.

Are you superstitious?

What are your plans this weekend?

Have you ever met someone from the internet?

Artisan Brush Collection by MAKE UP FOR EVER

header-pic-for-mufe-brushes

In March, I had the opportunity to meet Dany Sanz, Make Up For Ever Creator & Artistic Director. Agh!! I’m not the least bit excited due to my massive smile and wide eyes. ;)Dany-Sanz-and-I

I have to be honest, I felt a little out of place since it was a Pro Seminar and I’m nowhere close to being pro, let alone a make up artist of any sort. I just love playing with makeup and know how to apply it soley my own face.  Needless to say, it definitely was a real treat to take the day off and head into Toronto for that event where Dany unveiled not five or ten, but seventy six new cutting edge brushes. There was so much talk of all the brushes at that morning seminar in March, but we didn’t get to purchase, or have access to them until they officially launched in August. It’s been a long wait my friends, but they’re now available.

The extensive set of brushes range anywhere from every day must-haves, to performance tools for make up artists like brushes that looks like you’d use to paint your house with. I wasn’t joking.

The construction of each brush involved 25 stages and was hand-crafted by a total of 30 people from start to finish. Unbelievable, right? Hand-crafted? That’s dedication to your brand, right there. The softness of the brushes are quite something else. Due to the bristles being synthetic I was wondering how on par they’d be with make up application. mufe-08201325002

Ever since I received them last week I’ve been using them daily for make up application. I haven’t noticed a huge difference in the way they apply make up on my face which is significant for me. I like my face to look consistent.mufe-08201325001

You’ll notice that the end of the beechwood brush handles are snipped off at a diagonal wedge. That’s because it serves a dual purpose, to assist in faux lash applications. Clever.

The collection of seventy six brushes took Dany and her team over five years to create. Dany wanted a variety of synthetic fibers that mimicked the silky softness of natural hair. She hit the ball out of the park with that one. It’s hard to truly capture how silky and soft the brushes feel, but I tried my best to show you with a close up of the brush hairs as I hold them in my hand. new-face-brushes-by-mufeYou’ll notice on the brushes that my 108 brush says “straight”, where as the 160 brush says “straight & wavy”. That’s because the synthetic fiber technology has several diameters and types depending on the use. make-up-for-ever-ArtisanStraight fibers gives you a more generous and precise application. The wavy bristles are more splayed, allowing for a lighter application. Mix the two wavy & straight bristles together and you have best of both worlds.

I’ve been using my 108 brush for applying my Dior BB cream…dior

and 160 brush for my Jouer bronzer.jouer

I thought the brushes would be high end prices, due to all of the research and time put into development however I saw a chart where the prices range anywhere from $12 — $43. artisan-brushes-mufe

Suggested retail prices:
108 brush $36.00
160 brush $44.00

Take care of your brushes by washing them at least once a week to ensure the longevity and performance. Never get the barrel or ferrule (clamp) wet as it can end up separating and loosen over time. I use mild soap or baby shampoo to cleanse my brushes and my high end brushes still look like brand new after 4 years. And don’t let your dogs eat them ;)alfie-smelling-brushes

Make Up For Ever’s new Artisan brush collection will available in September. Limited selection will be at the Sephora stores but all brushes are available at Sephora.ca and Make Up For Ever boutiques.

Do you use brushes to apply your makeup? If so are any high-end?

How often do you wear make up?

OOTWW

I forgot to feature my co-worker L, last week! So here’s her outfit from last week that we took during our lunch break. Doesn’t she look great?!lmcmomootd

Back to yesterdays post regarding the mascara. I had thought about doing this but I didn’t do it until today. Applying smoky lash first, then finishing off to separate and lengthen a bit more with smoky extravagant. Gotta say, it works pretty darn well. My eye lashes are poppin off my face.

Now, the real question. Do I prefer Smoky Lash over Smoky Extravagant?

It’s hard to break up with your first (mascara) love. Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash is just that — my first love in a mascara and I will always faithfully go back to it. But what happens when your first mascara love has a younger, fresh, hotter, new feel? Smoky Extravagant has confused my heart and while it was a completely different brush and had me undecided for the first few days of using it. I think it’s safe to say that my go-to mascara will still remain the Smoky Lash. The clever cone shaped wand of the Smoky Extravagant is great and definitely gets a thumbs up in my books. I’m not ready for it to part from #1 place just yet. Perhaps combining the two mascaras will result in a favorite duo? If  I use two mascaras in an application it’s usually Make Up For Ever, and Buxom’s. Only time will tell.

Onto the outfits of my work week!ootww

What are your plans for the weekend?
I’ll be driving to another city to visit my late Grandmother’s sister and take her out to Swiss Chalet. She loves that place.
