Petty Harbour, Newfoundland

explore-petty-harbourFor the most part I kept my blog updated for the majority of the time I was home, minus the last 2 weeks. I’m probably stating the obvious here, but I clearly didn’t want people to realize our house in California was empty, even though a few of our neighbours were keeping a watchful eye. I mean, you never know. Especially due to me watching all these horror flicks on cable at my parents house. Definitely creepy thoughts have burrowed into my head of what could happen.

Meanwhile, let’s talk about some of the sights from my home town of St. John’s, Newfoundland (It’s in Canada for those who are geographically challenged like myself). Surrounding the city are multiple harbours, tiny towns, and quaint coves to explore.

My Mom and I took off on an afternoon one weekend to check out Cape Spear, and a few kilometres down the road from that is the smallest fishing town perfectly nestled away, called Petty Harbour. Known for its famous fish ‘n chips Chafe’s Landing, and home to musician Alan Doyle, lead singer of Great Big Sea, you can’t help but take in the exquisite views that east coast Canada has to offer.

Most Easterly Point in North America

Whenever I fly home, I love sight-seeing and touring around like I’m a new visitor. My Mom is the ideal person to tour around with because she likes to drive off and explore new areas, unlike myself where I haven’t driven past certain points as I’m afraid of getting lost.Explore-Newfoundland

One of my favourite spots to go when I’m home is Cape Spear, or otherwise known as the most easterly point in North America. With incredible views of crashing waves, the sea salt swarming the air, and the crazy gusts of wind forever messing up your hair.

The two lighthouses were built in the 1800’s, and it’s a joy to go walking around the area especially checking out the old World War 2 bunkers.

For now, I’ll let the beauty of the photographs take over. Enjoy the view.

Little peek of Newfoundland’s scenery

This was taken on King’s Road, in St. John’s. The same street as Moo Moo’s ice cream, for the not-so-locals ;)

Another photo of the same street, different angle. The houses in Newfoundland have always been very colorful. Some of them are completely outrageous colors. Purple houses with lime green trim and a yellow door. The colorful homes have been nick named “Jelly Bean houses”.

Local artists have done paintings showcasing the bright homes. It’s great.

Newfoundland doors. Again, King’s Road.

Cummings Street, St. John’s.

prescot street, St. John'sPrescot Street. You need one foot on the brake and one on the gas when at a stop-light on this street. Seriously lol.

My neighbor was drying some salted cod fish on their clothes line while I was home!

Beautiful St. John’s. That’s me and Alfie right there :)

Bought some treats at the Tilt House Bakery, in Portgual Cove. The person who opened this bakery was the old Auntie Crae’s baker, which shut down a few years ago!

Typical Newfoundland weather RDF/Rain Drizzle ‘n Fog.

Newfoundland is also very windy….

St. John’s Harbour

Our sweet pup, Alfie in the Battery! Yes, we brought him along. He got along quite well this trip. Wasn’t so much of a lunatic as he was last year. Getting calmer in his old age ;) He’ll be three next week!

Another view of The Battery.

Hope you all enjoyed a little bit of my homeland!
