Loving the Samsung Galaxy Camera

Popping in for an evening hello.

I got my hair cut from my amazing hair stylist (seriously) who I call “basement dweller”. I’ll show you in tomorrow’s post the before/after. I also picked up some goodies from Sephora. The night didn’t stop there. I asked my Boyf to join me at BestBuy to pick out a new camera for my point-and-shoot. Side note. Check out how cold the clouds look. This evening was just like an autumn’s evening. Bitter cold. Not suitable for sandals like I was wearing. I’m holding onto you summer. Come back!Best Buy
I’ve had my canon point and shoot for a number of years and it’s kinda starting to show signs of age.canon sd1100
I’m a dropper of things, and cameras aren’t the exception. Recently, I dropped the camera while the lens was open and thankfully it still works but now there’s a dark spot on the right hand side of every photo/video I take. It’s distracting since when I want to film some YouTube videos, the blob of darkness is just there, the entire time.

So I’m due for a new point and shoot. It’s insane how fast technology changes. My canon is around 5 years old and now look at the fancy Samsung Galaxy Camera EK-GC100 16.3 MP Digital Camera (in white no less) which retails for $599.99 at Best Buy. Mind. Blown.just-like-a-tablet
It looks like a high end smart phone with this absolutely massive screen (4.8″). You cannot do voice calling on this camera/smart “phone” but you can do internet calling. Basically it’s like a mini tablet stuck to the back of your camera. Fancy.

It has a very crisp and clear screen and has a great viewing angle (tipping it and having people from every angle be able to view).samsung

I was always a canon-girl at heart but I now I have a Samsung not-quite-SLR but pretty fancy, that the Boyf gave me for Christmas.samsung nx10

I’ve really enjoyed using it and it’s what I now use primarily for my blog photos.

I also went over to the Nikon’s to compare. Here I am looking at the Nikon J3—it wasn’t nearly as impressive. The Nikon didn’t have as many pixels and didn’t record in HD resolution like I had planned on looking for, when purchasing a camera.nikon-comparison
Samsung has all the bells and whistles. You may notice that it’s a bit bigger than your average point-and-shoots. But I didn’t feel that it was out of place to hold in my hands. It has a comfortable mould for your hand to grip so it doesn’t slip off the camera. A nice feature for a clumsy person like myself. It’s definitely a fun camera to use with a great user interface. As someone who doesn’t use a Samsung model table (I have an iPad), I didn’t find it difficult to navigate or get back to “home” or “camera” settings.

Samsung? You make one heckuva show-stopper camera. All in all, I give it two thumbs up. It’s going on my wishlist for now!

Back to look at the Samsung. I’ve fallen in love with it.snapping-shots-at-best-buy

But it’s out of my price range for now. I should’ve done a thumbs down. Haha! 599-price-at-best-buy
As you could imagine, the Samsung galaxy camera installs any apps, like you would on a phone. using-the-samsung-galaxy-ca
The main reason I’d like to have it is for recording YouTube videos. This lil guy records video in full HD up to 1920×1080. I’ll keep shopping around, or maybe I’ll wait out this Samsung camera to drop in price, since it’s fairly new. It’s oughta drop by Christmas, right? Santa Claus, you reading this? If you want to see more photos from our evening, I created a Google + album. samsung-galaxy-in-white

What kind of camera do you have?
I have a canon PowerShot SD1100 IS, and a Samsung NX 10

2012 Year In Review!

Happy New Year everyone!

The boyf and I got back from Newfoundland this morning, on a 5am flight. Needless to say, there wasn’t much NYE festivities happening around our parts! In fact, I went to bed in Newfoundland at around 11pm so I could get a bit of shut eye. Man. I’m getting old. At least I took tomorrow off as another vacation day, so I can catch up on a few things before heading back to work on Thursday.

Last year I did a 2011 year in review, and I thought I’d keep the tradition going this year. I blogged at least 24 times a month during 2012. 42 being the most in one month!

January

1slidingI had an unforgettable time in Newfoundland during Christmas last year. Sliding with just a sprinkle of snow? No problem! Ancy Nancy got it covered. :)

meetupThere was also a blogger meet-up that Morgan organized in Toronto!

leathercoatAh, the hunt for a leather jacket has ended. I finally found one I love, and it’s not even real leather. Saves me the dollars!

I’ve changed my tune on blog reviews, not everything is rosy.

white-batwingI blogged about my eBay finds. I’ll be doing this again soon, since I shop eBay all year round. I stopped posting my reviews about my items mid-year because I was starting to grab some things for Christmas presents. Since I fly home a lot, I bring whatever I have purchased throughout the year so my suitcase in December isn’t over burdened.

I completed the 50 day push up challenge!

nephewsWent to Newfoundland for Christmas (and got back today). Said my GoodBye’s to my little nephews yesterday… :(

pack-your-suitcaseFor Christmas I gave my Boyfriend a trip to Quebec City. We’re going in February!

samsung-nx10The boyf also got me a pretty unexpected gift. A way better camera than my point-and-shoot canon! I’m so excited to learn more about this one!

walletGot my parents a pretty well-deserving, special gift — with huge thanks to my neighbours organizing it with me, a trip to Florida with tons of spending money. Eee! My parents both cried. I never see them cry, so it was touching to see them so happy, opening the gifts. I was the one who gave the money, and my neighbour planned the flights and accommodations. I had to think of a clever way to give them the dolla bills instead of just saying “here’s some cash for you to spend”. So I went out and got a wallet for my Mom(from eBay actually) and filled it up with American $50 bills. Put it in a box and voila. But for my Dad to open something too, I taped a bunch of bills together and stuffed them into an old tissue box and had one $50 poking through; so when he pulled it — all the others kept coming out too. Like a never ending pot of gold.
