Getting my afternoon boost

Living in two homes for around a month has its challenges. For one, we didn’t have a fridge at the new place until recently; which meant any time that I went over to unpack during the day while Mister was at work, I “had” to pack snacks — these snacks.

Lucky for me I’m pretty organized especially when it comes to feeding the family members so we can all get on with whatever workload we set for ourselves for the day. For me, it means packing a significant amount of diverse snacks to keep everyone happy and content. It’s usually a piece of fruit, a pre-portioned bag of raw nuts, and a Shine Organics snack pouch (psst, that link is for a $1 off a 4 pack!).

When Mister can come to the new house, he’s bringing in heavy boxes while I’m sorting through the kitchen cabinets, deciding what goes where, etc. The master bathroom is the other priority, and I wish it wasn’t. It’s just the fact I have too many press samples and I cannot wait to offload them to whoever wants, and I’ve said that before in a previous blog post, I mean it! There’s no need for filling up all the drawers in the bathroom simply because I can.

Who’s sick of me talkin’ about this whole move yet?

See that smirk? It’s there for a reason, ’cause although we aren’t 100% moved over to the new house (re: food) I got a snack, and I’m not gonna get hangry. LOL.

I only recently discovered the Shine Organics, probably because I’m going through the aisles in Target that were forever skipped prior to me getting preggo. I found Shine Organics snack pouches there and used a $1 coupon, ’cause I like saving my dollars.

I know some people use these pouches for their kiddo’s but these are for adults too! I mean, I bought ’em for myself obviously — whatever works to get those superfoods in-ta-ya! Comes in a convenient lil’ pouch that you can chuck in your purse and be on with your day. When you need an afternoon boost, grab your Shine Organics pouch, drink up, and go on your merry way.

Long Weekend Eats

I’ve always been fond of Labour Day weekend. Perhaps it’s because it’s my two love-birds of parents anniversary on the 4th. Or it’s the last hurrah before my favorite season comes out to play.

Gotta admit though, I felt a little jipped this summer with the weather. Where was Ma Nature in July? We’re getting heat this weekend but it makes me long for it even more. Putting my woes aside, I’m about to tell you all about our weekend even though it is only half way over.

We did a bit of relaxing out on the balcony, watching the thunder storm and having a few snacks and bevvies. Pardon the iPad photo.
Even though my boyfriends major race of the year is now over (Ironman Mont Tremblant) he’s still going strong in September. Yesterday he booked it down close to the USA boarder to Chatham for a time trial bike with one of his friends. That left me with the entire day to myself. Which usually results in a lot of money spent when I’m bored, hungry and need groceries.

I didn’t go too hog wild because I would’ve had to carry up all the groceries myself from the car and I dislike making multiple trips. 3 bags of groceries from 4 different places, including a trip to the Farmer’s Market and a stop into the Health Food Store.

Oh and to Target to pick up these sweet kicks for $19. I can’t wait til they’re broken in and look more rugged. target-mossimo-katelyn-boot

baggu-bagsLet’s see what we’ve got in here.

groceriesSorta left to right starting clockwise at 11pm ;) Hemp Hearts (on sale!) // Vegan Tomato & Avocado vinaigrette // Farmers Market Peaches // Sweet Corn // Light Havarti // Red Peppers // Broccoli // Sprouts // Apples // Tomato // Vegan Gluten Free Brownie // Lara Bar // Dempster’s Thins // Dried Unsweetened Mango.

Total: $26.31

And because I felt like it, I went to the drive-thru and got myself some lunch for under four bucks, thanks to dollar drink days.mcdonalds

I made some pretty mouth-watering meals this weekend, won’t lie. Then again, we’re pretty easy to please.

Supper consisted of a roast chicken breast // white roasted potatoes // Farmers Market corn on the cob (best I’ve had in years. Thanks Herrles) // and Herrles carrotssupper

Breakfast one morning on our balcony.  Multi-grain Dempster’s Thins // Sausages // Maple Leaf Prime bacon // Farmers Market peaches from Herrles // Egg omelet with mushrooms, peppers, and tomatoesbreakfast-with-dempsters-th

I got a little creative with lunch over the weekend and made a really healthy plate of finger foods for us to eat on the balcony again. Sandwhich ingredients: Multi-grain Dempster’s Thins // Sprouts // Red Pepper // Tomato // Mushrooms // Spring Mix // Chicken // Light Havarti // Roasted Red Pepper Aioli.DempstersThins-sandwich

Apple with a vegan gluten-free brownie which was still so terribly unhealthy (ingredients list had shortening which is worse for you than lard. Shortening has tons of trans fat). Oops. Read your labels folks! Didn’t realize it until the boyf scolded me after I showed him the brownie and raved how wonderful it tasted, then brought up the ingredients photo. Lol.vegan-gf-brownie

You may have noticed a reoccurring trend in my meals above with the Multi-grain Dempster’s Thins. I’m currently working with them on a campaign to promote their products. My Boyfriend always buys bread as he carb loads like crazy on a daily basis. He doesn’t stop running around (literally), swimming and biking for 5+ hours. In fact, he’s out on his tri bike right now with a friend for a 200km ride.

Since I stopped eating Paleo I’ve slowly incorporated carbs back into my diet. I love ciabatta bun sandwiches but often times it leaves me feeling bloated as it’s such a thick piece of bread. Using the Dempster’s Thins I have the best of both worlds. No bloating since they’re thin and getting to dive into luxury with a bit of carbs in my belly and not worry about the calorie intake so much. In fact, Dempster’s Thins have 50% less calories than their leading whole wheat bread. Obviously due to the fact that the bread is much thinner and you’re eating substantially less. But that’s the point. We don’t need to eat a ton more! I’m completely satisfied with the thin bread.

I’d like to share some coupons with you guys if you wanted to buy them for yourself this week with the kids going back to school, or you just going back to work and want to be prepared ahead of time.

OOTWW

Taking photos outside, you’ll never mimic the same type of sunlight. That and the fact that Monday – Wednesday were at completely different times (ranging from 6:30am photos to 8:00am) so obviously the lighting will be a bit different from day to day. So some of my photos are nice daylight looking while others are blue or red. Pain in my butt. I’m sure you all really noticed the photo colors ;)ootww

The other day at work just flew right on by. Probably because we basically worked half the day! No joke.

From 8am-10am my Marketing Team & I had to be out of the office for a presentation of sorts at the local Holiday Inn. Boy, has it changed since I’ve been there last (uh… the 80s?). Loving their leather chairs and the warm red hues on the wall. I’m looking at decorating our balcony for next summer. Thinking of stuff like a set of cushions outdoor with some fun stripey or printed patterns. I bet I could find a bunch on sale since it’s end of season.Holiday Inn

Since we usually have our team meetings on Wednesday, we decided to keep the routine going but rather than do it in office, have it while eating a nice breakfast out at a restaurant! Get this. I found it funny. The server didn’t laugh as hard as I did, when ordering it: A vegetarian omelet with… bacon (and a side of bacon). Bacon in my omelet, bacon on the side. No better way.

When my boss & co-worker went out to their cars, the server came over and leaned into me. Saying “You has a beautiful smile. Where you from by the way?” Of course, me being friendly (what else is there to be, really?) I said “THANKS! Newfoundland. Tee hee.” In my head I was saying “Uhh. I’m from taken city. Thanks“.

It was a delicious breakfast and I didn’t feel like taking a photo of it all. The portions were massive and by the time lunch rolled around I wasn’t hungry. I went out to Target to spend my gift card that I won at work and rather than keeping it to the $20 limit that my card was worth, I of course… spent a good fiddy bucks. What the hey? Couldn’t help it. They were having clearance on everything. My favorite underwear were 50% off (usually $5 each, which is still inexpensive in my mind for the comfiest underwear on the planet. Gillgan and O’Malley, I love you). Look for this tag! You won’t ever regret it:gilligan omalley
Undies. Got a cute pair of socks. A bra (again — by Gilligan and O’Malley) that has a front closure which is PHENOMINAL. A mars bar (not shown. It’s in my belly). And some Up & Up brand of disinfecting wipes. Anyone go through these as fast as I do? I use them for spills, and quick clean ups around the apartment. They’re the cheapest I’ve seen for the quantity. Don’t buy the Walmart brand. They feel so dry and plasticy right out of the package.

Today I’m bringing a new snack with me to work. I’m excited to dig into them. Remember my post about healthy snacking tips, and showed you the Kind bars in one of them? Erin, from KIND somehow found my website and e-mailed me asking if I’d like to try out some of their new flavors. Ain’t gonna turn that shiz down! Those KIND bars are superior to any other energy/granola on the market in my opinion. Plus, they’re two bucks a pop. Not the cheapest, which is why I wait for a sale to buy them. Anyway. As I said. Excited to dig into them either my morning or afternoon snack. Probably sooner than later as it’s already calling to me. Oof.dark choc chili kind bar
