Weekend recap

I had a wonderful relaxing weekend. Did you? I hope so! I take weekends off working out and while sometimes it feels like I’m missing out on working out, I quickly snap out of that silly mindset and enjoy the two days off.

First off, I booked a flight home to Newfoundland. I’m not going til the end of June but I’m so excited I had to tell everyone :)

On Saturday morning I woke up and made myself some delicious breakfast. Actually, scratch that I didn’t make it because it was pre-made in advance for the entire week. I just had to heat it up. So easy, so quick, so healthy, so paleo.

Saturday I took my Boyf to experience the fresh farmers market downtown, where we stocked up on inexpensive produce for the week. I didn’t need much this time around. Just some sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, celery, broccoli, tomatoes and strawberries. I spent less than $15 and got oodles of food.

The Boyf decided to go out on his tri bike for a few hours and get in some training outside since the weather was quite nice while I took the pup for a walk and came back home to give myself an at home mani/pedi.

Used these two colors. The berry color is from Nail Polish Canada, and the fun peach one is by Barry M which I bought on eBay last summer from the UK.

I got caught up on some of my favorite blogs while meal-prepping for the upcoming week. Is your mouth watering? Be patient :) The recipe will be posted on Wednesday morning.plate-it-up

My Boyfriend is an Ironman Triathelete and has been trying for the past 8 years for me to stop eating unhealthy (candy, soda, candy, and more candy). Since going on Paleo I’ve been very strict about not having any cheats whatsoever. There’s no easy supper’s on a lazy week night. Everything is planned, prepared and healthy. It’s funny because some nights I used to be tired and just throw a frozen pizza in the oven and call it supper. The Boyf is definitely feeling deprived of some of those lazy meals as he’s been eating the majority of what I make (with the addition of wheats/grains/carbs added in). So each Saturday night I’ve been making him some homemade blueberry muffins to satisfy his very small sweet tooth. He even suggested the need to pop by McDonalds… WITH OUT ME. We’ll see about that.

muffinsBest girlfriend of the year goes to, ahem ahem.

blueberry muffinsMan, they smelled devine coming out of the oven and I couldn’t even take a bit. Just smell, watch, and deliver a fresh one on a plate for him.

Yesterday, I went to Target again. Boy I love that place. Does anyone know when the grand opening is supposed to be? I thought it was supposed to be April-something’th but clearly I’m wrong. Anyway, that didn’t stop me from shopping the whole store. I was in there for 2½ hours and managed to spend $130. Oops? Hey, it’s stuff I “needed”.

Click to enlarge the pic if need be ;) What I bought:

  • A salmon/coral tank for climbing (on sale)
  • Gilligan & O’Mally undies ($5 – apparently the same company who makes VS undies make these too!)
  • Fieldcrest down pillow (on sale)
  • Ivory colored flats (that make my feet look even more tan) for $24.00
  • Up & Up shave gel (so much cheaper than the brand name ones)
  • Purple shower fluff thing
  • Teal colored exfoliating thing
  • Up & Up bathroom cleaner with bleach ($1.47!! Sure tilex was $3-something!)
  • Travel sized Dippity do hair gel for the Boyf
  • Up & Up rubber gloves for washing dishes
  • Up & Up disposable gloves for self tanning
  • Crest 3d White tooth paste (interested in trying this)
  • 5 travel sized deodorants (on sale – and cheaper than buying the regular sized *but not by much* which was also on sale)
  • Sqiggly straws for my nephews
  • A small locking container for my snacks
  • Up & Up “ziplock” bags
  • Up & Up disinfecting wipes

What did you do this weekend?

Doowop cafe, and a Target haul

Sally NailsLike my nails and nail sticker? The nails are my favorite color everrrr (Sally Hansen Pink Slip, and Essie nail sticker).

nail polishLooks like I’m a big fan of neutral nail polishes ;)

Totally random picture before I jump jive and wail into this post…

I haven’t used iTunes in about 5 years. Not for any particular reason, I just have been relying on the boyf’s music for the past few years and never really had the urge to buy/download music, as I was pretty pleased with my play lists. Last year I sent my iPod back to Apple to get a brand new one for free (something was wrong with all of the original iPod nano’s and we got new square one’s for free). Since then I’ve been missing some of my music that I downloaded from the past.

On Sunday, I decided it was time to break out the old school tunes. I was always told I was raised in the wrong decade due to my taste in music. I absolutely love Fats Domino, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and even a bit of Otis Williams. So rather than hunt down new songs to buy and make me broke, I decided to google “internet radio from the 50’s” and came across this Tune In Radio. Gotta say, as soon as “Gumdrop – Otis Williams” came on I couldn’t control my dancing feet and I’m pretty sure the boyf had a ball just laughing at me and … even joining me in a dance or two, whether he likes to admit or not! The music station isn’t the best of quality but I don’t really care that much. I just love that type of music, and it makes me want to dance.

I wasn’t planning on talking about my Target purchases since I didn’t think it was very blog-worthy but a few people commented and e-mailed me, asking me to chat about it a little bit.Target Loves Canada

I went to two of the new Target Canada locations (Cambridge, and Guelph) and was not disappointed. Probably because I had my expectations set low due to the people reporting back saying it was not the best since a few things were out of stock. Well, duh – that’s because it’s only a soft launch and the grand opening hasn’t happened yet. So I was prepped to not find my Sonia Kashuk hidden concealer palette.

target-flats

I picked up these lovely copper toed flats (as my co-workers said). Heck man, they’re rose gold baby! $19.99 at that.

I also spotted some inexpensive watches ($24.99 for the rose gold one shown below!). Mind you, it was cheap, but didn’t really look like it! Looks like the Fossil one’s. Target Watch

Speaking of Fossil. The wallets at Target looked like a total knock off, of the wallets I spotted in Fossil recently. They looked the same, but they certainly didn’t feel as soft and wonderful as Fossil wallets. Wallets

Have you been to any of the new Target Canada stores yet? I bought a few other things at the Guelph location when I was there 2 weekend’s ago (striped pillow cases, cute jewlery and some nice looking placemats!).

Guelph Target, Powdered peanut butter, what else?

What’s this silliness going on here right now. Blogging on the weekends, wha?

I know. Who am I. Good morning, by the way… readers! I need your help – I’m looking to change up my comments section so that there’s an actual reply button instead of me going in and editing each individual comment to say “Nancy says: … and I type my comment here“. I DO read each and every one of your comments but I find it to be a hassle to edit your comment, with my reply. Get what I’m saying? So, I want to fix that.

What is your Sunday looking like? I’ll tell you what. I’m being a bit lazy right now because I’m driving over to Guelph later on because I really want to check out Target and that’s the only one that’s open around my area right now, so I’m excited to see the hype. Even though I know the store kind of isn’t the greatest since some of their brands aren’t in. But I don’t care. I want to see and perhaps judge it for myself. I may take pictures. We’ll see :)

Remember yesterday I was telling you about me going paleo for thirty days next month? Well, did you know peanuts are not paleo? They’re not technically nuts. I know, crazy right? Who knew. Clearly not me, til my CrossFit coach informed me. I don’t love peanut butter anyway, but the Boyfriend does (and will not be participating in paleo with me, because he already eats way more healthy that I). But I thought this PB2 product would be of interest to those who like the peanut butter taste.  It’s gluten free as well.

Basically PB2 is grounded up roasted peanuts with 75% of the fat removed which is now in a powder form. You add water and it gives it the peanut butter consistency again. It even comes in a chocolate peanut butter form. Yum! Kind of reminds me of something astronauts would use, really.

When my Boyfriend and I go grocery shopping together (hours long trip. Yes, that was plural. Yes, it tests my patience) we both look for food that is nutritious but also low in calories, sodium and sugar. He reads those labels, not me.

I personally have yet to see PB2 in stores around near me, but I’ve seen them frequent the heathy living blogs that I’ve been reading lately. Have you guys tried it? What do you think of it?
